I have these moments where I will realize that people are talking to me, but it seems like they're using conversations I've had with them, and I find myself using the same exact words I used in a previous conversation, or words they used in the conversation before, and its only after the fact that I realized I just did this, and I seem to have no control over it. I will repeat verbatim what I said in that conversation, it could have been something I said years ago. Does this make any sense at all?

it can be a weird sensation when it happens ... and yes, more like a deja vu which I think could happen to anyone. One thought I have when it happens is that ... because it's a similar situation and the words were the right ones to use the first time, they are going to get used again to fit the second time (or third or fourth) until one of the people involved either realises they've had this conversation before or takes a different position on the matter. Sometimes it's like we have an automatic response that comes out to particular situations as well (once I saw a whole class of people respond the same way to a question, same words and everything, which was funny at the time (the context really was) because it wasn't the response that was being asked for, but was the automatic response people had)
Your question makes a lot of sense ... I had it happen again the other day and had the same sense of being puzzled ![]() |

Yes, your question makes sense, but as others have said, this is actually a very common experience. It's a type of memory experience and not considered to be a dissociative thing at all.

Deja vu is normal, but more common and more intense in individuals with any type of dissociative disorder.

That's interesting! I was noticing lately that moments of deja vu have been much more common with me during super stressful times.
