I have a terrible memory for some things, and on occasion I'll find myself going through things I need to do, and realize I've already done it, and have no memory of doing it. Or once in a great long while I'll apparently sleepwalk. I've gone to bed in one bed in the house and woken up intending to go to my computer to turn it on only to realize I'm in my old bedroom. It's little things like that. Also people like to mess with my poor memory, or just assume I'm lying about not remembering things. Most of it probably could be just attributed to poor memory, but I keep getting high did scores on those quizzes, So I thought I'd ask here to see if any if this jives with any of you. I'd also like to point to an earlier post I made as well as more incidents. Do other personalities have to be fully formed like with names etc, or can it be just a switch that someone says something, and you just act think and feel differently than you normally do?

no they don't have to be fully formed with names and all that, they can be fragments.

example... Normal forgetting.... I went into the kitchen last night meaning to do the dishes and discovered they had already been done is a normal memory problem... many people forget that they had done things due to many different reasons, the most common is that they were thinking about other things and it just didnt register with their conscious mind that they are doing the dishes. I didnt remember doing the dishes because there was so many other things going on in the house at that moment. DID forgetting... before I was integrated my alter "yes ma'am" did the dishes. I would get stressed out just looking at the dishes, dissociate and "yes ma'am" would do this dishes. this happened every day not just once in a while, but every day every single time it was my turn to do the dishes. When my therapist would talk with "yes ma'am" this alter would tell her all about doing my dishes. thats the difference...in normal forgetting its something that happens to everyone sometimes. with DID the memory problem happens more than once, is extreme, consistent and directly related to the the disorder. your treatment providers can tell you what kind of memory problems you are having, whether they are related to normal forgetting, forgetting with other mental and physical health issues or directly related to a dissociative problem. if you dont have a treatment provider yet and live in the USA there are many free and sliding fee (pay only a small percentage of your income) treatment options such as crisis centers, churches, charity agencies, and state aid like medicaid (even people who work can still be eligible for medicaid depending upon how much their income and expenses are) if you are outside the USA a social service/human services agency can tell you if you are eligible for your locations low income services like health care. |
