This is the thing which tears at the walls of my heart.
Viewable only from afar when the sky is clear,
The moon is large, and the wind blows the smog
Free from the city below.

An invisible assailant
Cloaked in the ardor of youth’s promise,
Rises from the ashes of years painted black by pain.
Breathing in life from bone-dusted yesterdays,
Something new crushes through
Its embryonic fortress.

Lured by the scent of raw passion,
A taste so familiar to the memory
Of the being this vampire replaced,
It ascends from the basement of my tortured mind.

Though silent, the leaded footsteps
Are not unnoticed by the creator.

Humility plagues my once tenacious ego.
Warmth flushes my cheeks as It
Passes by me on the cobbled threshold.

Though I have crafted an entity
Out of my own broken bones,
Pouring my blood into another’s veins,
My hoary head bends low.

Finding a freedom whose sweetness eluded
A much weaker predecessor,
It ravishes the feminine hamlet,
Feeding off the emotional milk of strangers,
Fornicating with maidens of ignorance.

When the night has been drained of all glory,
When the rage has been spent on vanity’s gain,
When remorse has been purged from my soul,
My Alter will return to me.
