my treatment providers and I didnt count my alters.. in my psychiatrists words "having DID isnt a popularity contest of how many alters you have compared to another person with DID, you have as many as it took in order for you to survive. what matters now is that we know you have DID and we can now help you to become stable and work on your problems in ways that are best for you."

I just followed what ever treatment plans we made together about my problems and in time each of my alters integrated with me when they were no longer needed to do their job, purpose and reason for being because I was able to do those things for my self. I am very happy with not knowing exactly how many there were, its mind blowing enough knowing my brain was able to dissociate my personality/emotions/feelings, in order that I should survive.
Thanks for this!

Do you have a therapist? And if so have you mentioned this to your therapist? I think it would be important to discuss this with you therapist. Take care.

I am glad to hear you have a therapist. I haven't always wanted to go to therapy but I have to admit it has helped us to get to know each other. Have you mentioned your concerns with your therapist? Sometimes it is just good to bounce thoughts off someone you trust even if there are no answers. For me it helps to hear what the others have to say and gives me stuff to consider and think about.
Thanks for this!

I really like this. I try and look at the world from this perspective, however I have counted my alters sort of. I find more every time.

Let me introduce you to my crew: Veronika, 5, "Cowboy" (I think his name is Mike) are the one's I know of the most. I've had about 3 random one off types, but I also know there's more in me that just haven't had to come out yet.

So in a way I can't count. As my fiancé says "I love all of you." so it doesn't matter how many there are, they're all part of 'me'.

I... I guess I'm lucky, because I only really have one alter. I hope. He's horrible, I've kind of dubbed him Niall because he took on the persona of someone I knew called Niall.

I never talked about my "alters" but if I have them, they don't have names, I just know them by their characteristics. id say 5. one of them is very violent and wanted to kill my nephew...one is innocent and childlike. one is a male and dominant, one is a bit eccentric and genderless, and the other is a wise old person (also genderless) and theres a girl.

This actually inspired me to draw out these "alters"

How many alters.

I left out the girl because she's a bit rare...

My husband has five that we know. There's Jonathan and Jonny and J.T. and Dana, and then there's another that doesn't give a name and just calls himself "The Core". I think there might be one or two others because sometimes I'm talking with someone who isn't any one of the others, but they aren't out much and the rest of the System doesn't seem to know who I'm talking about. As he has been integrating, I don't talk with much of anyone but Jonathan anymore. They're all still in there, but they work together now.

Thanks for the drawing crackfox. You are very good.

I have wanted to draw mine out too but I only have a vague sense of what they look like based on comments (Veronika complaint about my short hair, ext). I know they don't look like me but I don't have any definite picture. If I passed them on the street though I'm pretty sure id recognize them. Lol

I agree, Crackfox, that was pretty amazing! I'm very creative in some ways, and I could describe them in words, but I've never been able to draw like that. You have quite the talent
Thanks for sharing!
