Today at work I was cleaning up a room (I work at a hotel) and I.. I don't really know what happened. I can't tell if I dissociated hardcore or experienced some sort of brief psychosis (I'm psychotic, so) but I suddenly felt disconnected from reality and became delusional, convincing myself that I didn't exist, others didn't exist, etc. It was super weird. Anything like that ever happened to you guys?

Im sorry but we cant tell you which this was.. only your treatment providers can do that.....

what I can tell you is that the diagnostic criteria for dissociative disorders is that reality testing remains intact...what that means is that when a person dissociates (feels numb, spaced out, feeling disconnected from their self or their suroundings...) they still know and can tell what is real and what isnt. there isnt a delusional factor. delusions are things like believing something is real that really isnt type of stuff.

examples of dissociation...

stress causing me to feel numb, spaced out, like I cant feel my body or not connected to those around me, sort of like in a dream but knowing its not a dream.

seeing someone that looks like my abuser and feeling numb spaced out, disconnected to my body but knowing Im still standing in line, thats my wife and this is the event we were there to see....

there are many different severities of dissociation starting with the normal and then through to the most extreme a person can dissociate is when their mind creates alternate personalities...

if you think you may have a dissociation problem the best thing to do is contact your treatment providers, there are psychiatric tests that can be done to assess whether a person has a mental disorder, which one and to what severity. then you can be treated for it....

treatment for mental disorders involves many different avenues here in the USA...therapy, medication, specialized therapy techniques, medical assessments and treatments for medical issues that may be causing the mental health problem, ....

my suggestion contact your treatment providers if this continues to bother you. they can help you where we are not able to, because we are not your treatment providers nor in your location.

all we do here is share our stories and whether we have had the same problems as you and what we/our treatment providers have done about it. when I had this problem my treatment providers called it psychosis (because with dissociation reality testing remains intact) and the treatment for me was medication changes and inpatient care for my own safety while the medication changes were being done.

again only your treatment providers can tell you which this is in you and what you need to do in order for it not to happen again.

I have felt like I didn't exist except for my head and have sort of blacked out while I was awake when I was in a stressful situation with a lot of people.

I don't know know if it's that same thing but I start to think about my existence and then I feel like I don't exist, I feel like I'm nothing. It happens for a few seconds.

I haven't ever felt like others didn't exist. I've frequently had the sensation that I didn't exist. Sort of numb, a dream-like state. I get really afraid that I'll lose consciousness. The worst part is when I'm driving and have that sensation.

I've felt like that (especially from 14-35) and periodically on and off. I feel like I'm not there (or that my personality has gone on a permanent hiatus) and everything just goes thru me and doesn't register with me. No matter how hard I try I don't have control over it. I can not figure out adults who are in-touch with themselves 24/7. (I have not felt like that since 13 or so and really frustrates me.)
