Dissociative disorder has been brought up to me and I've done some research but I don't quite get it or I guess I don't understand how I might have it. Can someone please explain it in simple terms to me?

in the simplest terms dissociation is a reaction (things like feeling numb, spacy/foggy minded, feeling disconnected from yourself or your environment...) to a trigger...

kind of like if someone says something that makes you angry..what they said is the trigger and you feeling angry is the reaction....

something happens (a trigger) to make a person feel dissociation symptoms (reaction)

. most times these are normal, meaning everyone as human beings go through these things and its completely normal for it to happen.....

what makes the dissociation abnormal is how these things affect you and your life,on all different aspects of life... each person is different meaning there is no one right way or wrong way to have these things. I dissociate with storms where as my wife has no problem with storms, my wife has different dissociation triggers/reactions then I do.

what makes it a disorder here in america depends upon you meeting diagnostic criteria for the dissociative disorders you can read in this link about what america goes by for what dissociative disorders we have here in the USA ...
