Last week my T said something to the effect that we don't do anything as an alter that we would not do when an alter was not out. What do you think? Would you do some of the things your alter(s) does?

There are things that some of my insiders have done that I would NEVER do---maybe you better check and make sure you heard her correctly.
I would never kick my T's office chair or break her wastebasket or use obsenities or the "F" word. But there is an angry insider who did/does.
I would NEVER cheat on my H or sleep around. But someone did---

yea my counselor said kind of the same thing she said that as an alter I wont and can't do anything that I haven't already been doing for years. she said something about the dms criteria for DID is about distintion where each alter has a set way to be and they continue being that way. so like today as the alter samantha I am not going to be acting any differently then I did yesterday or years ago as samantha. And t hat everything that my alters do is something that I at one time or other in my life I did that. the only difference is that the memory of my doing that was shut off from my awareness. kind of like going to sleep. that memory of my doing whatever samantha does is is where my aware brain can't get to it. That someday when it is time I will remember being the one doing those things only for whatever reasons it was too traumatic so I shut off that memory in my asleep part of my brain.

My alters do things, that I would never consider doing...abusive language, fighting etc. IMO your T might not have meant what she said.... They have their own distinct personalities..... Have a great day!

I so much want what your T says as true but it isn't no matter how I wished it to be true.

as an alter I being Marie, can safely say, that Angie would never be able to voice herself as I have always done she and the others need a protector because they are still too tramatized to stand up for themselves, when a ****** trigger happens they all hide, not totally meaning to offend but your T don't know %#@&#! about DID

I am not offended by what anyone has said. I feel like sometimes I am a trainer for those T's who don't know what DID is. I mean don't they learn ANYTHING about this is their studies? I don't think so any more. I told him (T) that I disagreed with him that I have had alters do things that I would never even think of doing. We agreed to disagree which I thought was pretty good...I had never done that before...stoood up to a T.

No my T knew exactly what she was saying and I didn't misunderstand ner. She has been in the business of working with dissociatives and dissociative Identity Disorder for over 25 years and keeps up to date by going to training seminars and workshops given by Dr Colin Ross the well known psychiatrist that woorks with dissociatives and Dissociative Identity Disorder and when I found out that I have DID from the pstchiatrist he also explained the criteria that was the reason why came up a 10 on the dissociative identity disorder scale, a 50 on the G scale and other scales aand criteria for DID. I was afraid after getting the diagnosis that the alters would take over and I'd be gone forever and they told me that alters can only do what is already stored as them. and that one of the criteria is that they are distinct meaning samantha can't do things that jerry does and jerry cant do what samantha does and that they never will and they are just parts of me that I have shut off from my awareness because those memories that are the alters are what I experienced but was too traumatic to know about back when I separated that part of my memorys off. the psychiatrist that explained this all to me has been in the business of working with dissociatives for 45 years and its his specialty at a DID treatment center here where I get therapy. They know what they are talking about and I trust them completely not to send me the wrong way.

No - I do not believe what the T said - for while our mentally depressed and wounded alter might do some thing out of the ordinary - the person we are today in the present is healing and getting the counseling we need, therefore, we would NOT react as a much more depressed us might have in the past.
