I know there isn't a medicine for dissociation.

But does anyone find any helpful to keep it from happening or reduce? I just started Zoloft for extreme anxiety. Doctor says it appears me feeling overwhelmed is triggering dissociation. I also have PTSD.

You're experience would be helpful.

I have taken Zoloft and it worked very well for my anxiety and PTSD. I don't know if it will help wit your dissociation or not but it's certainly worth a try.
Thanks for this!

I've thought about this for a minute, and I've realized that I don't need anxiety to effect a switch. Just a change of environment or situation is enough for me to change to cope with the moment. I'm always changing, so like reading a list of my alters names causes me to spaz uncontrollably as each steps forward. I quit doing that. I feel like a human machine gun when I do that.

Extreme anxiety only causes me to depersonalize...go out of body. God I hate that. It only happens at the worse of times like when I'm flying down the freeway over a bridge or standing on the edge of something. Never when I'm standing on solid ground.

I hope it works for you, but for me, I just can't see it. I took Buspar for awhile, and it barely did the trick on the bridge panic attacks. All I wanted to do was escape through the back of my skull! Ugh!

Let us know how it goes. I might ask for stronger stuff next time

there is medication for dissociation. dissociation is a reaction to something that the person is having trouble with. that trouble is called a trigger. examples of triggers panic anxiety, depression grief, sleep problems, eating problems.....theres a whole lot of things that cause a person to dissociation.

what medications work for dissociating depends upon what is causing that dissociation.

examples ...

if depression is the cause of the dissociation then anti depressants work to stop the dissociation

if psychosis is the reason why a person is dissociating then anti psychotics will stop the dissociating....

the only time there is no medication for dissociation is if the dissociation is on a normal level ie daydreaming, deep concentration, high way hypnosis, ....

but the one thing about medication is that each person reacts their own way to medications....what that means is even though in general it works...each person has to find out which meds work and at what dosages.

my suggestion continue to work with your treatment providers, if they think zoloft will work for you then they are the best ones to work with to fine tune the dosage and if needed change to a different one.
Thanks for this!
