so I am really anxious.......tomorrow I meet with my T and Mom to introduce Mom to the alters. We've tried that in the past and been unsuccessful......Mom refuses to acknowledge the abuse and denies that my reality of DID is in fact a reality at all. Now, don't get me wrong, I love my Mom but she just doesn't get me.......Any thoughts/ideas on how to introduce alters to family? encouragement and support are much appreciated.

Toes,
I don't have much advice, but I do have an observation. Your alters probably don't feel comfortable surfacing around your mom because of your own nervousness. If you can't bring them around with her there, maybe you can have your T tape record introductions to show to your mom? Your T can play them for her and you guys can discuss the outcome together. I myself feel like coming out of the MI closet so to speak. Lol. I haven't told my mom yet, but she will probably be the next person I open up to. I'm not even sure if she'll believe me, but I'm sick of living in secrecy. I'm sure she can hear me "talking in my sleep" every night and wonder why I do so. Anyway, hugs to you and your brave journey! Our parents are often times the hardest ones to open up to, and most likely a reason we dissociated in the first place. Love and blessings, Jen

I'm sorry honey, I wish that I can help. My alters sit here and talk to my family and I'm accused of "falling out of character", faking it, acting, Lol. Omg. Whatever. I think since its "mom", you can't relax, they can't relax. Alters, unless they're feeling like it, just might not come front. And then again there are those that just don't want to stop!
Whatever happens hun, it's going to be all right. ![]() |
