i wonder what would happen with that if they took actors (theatre rather than film) who were in the middle of a theatre production (say one performance almost every day over a couple weeks) and neuroimaged them switching 'into character'...

(i don't think neuroimaging shows anything either way)

This is not directed at anyone in particular but I just wanted to mention Doc John's stance on this type of discussion.

"As requested by the members, a supportive place for folks with dissociative disorders (such as DID, also known as multiple personality disorder).

This is a support forum, so discussion about whether or not DID or other dissociative disorders exist are not appropriate here."

Best,

You know, i read this movie called Raising Cain, In the movie a doctor tramatized his own son purposely to create DID and then study it (horrific i know) what i was TRYING to imply was the question whether she had to it begin with ...or perhaps Doc Wilbur had a hand it .....maybe not through tramatization ...but nevertheless.....i apologize to those i have offended...and after this post i will stop any further discussion of this on my part.....For the record however, Yes, I do believe in DID, Yes i understand alittle more than you might realize, and No there is and was never no discussion with whether DID was real or not, previously stated in the document...Sybil was a person with a rare form of DID.....and due to "evidence" that they might have thought she didnt have DID to begin with ....but that Doc. Wilbur started the ball rolling persay.....as i have stated before I am sorry to everyone for misinturperating .....and i hope we can put this behind us and move on......have a good day...
love, Inny

I'll probably step away from this forum, but still i do not think questioning whether one person's experience is real means that you are questioning a whole DX. Its totally different. If the question is if Sybil is real, we cant replace the name Sybil for everyone.

Its the same as asking if someone's in popular press might not really have depression or anxiety. Its specific to that person. So its just not constructive to me to generalize a comment that was made in a specific way. In other forums, I've heard people talk about those who fake having an eating disorder. It doesnt mean eating disorders don't exist.

But again, I'll step away from this discussion and the forum. I know there are some sensitivities here, but I'm just tyring to get us to think how our sensitivities may be clouding the intepretation and miscontrue what was posted which in no way at all suggested that they were questioning the existance of DID. Thanks for the explaination Inny.

> No there is and was never no discussion with whether DID was real or not

indeed.

the main reason i typically don't post to the dissociation forum is because it is important to me to have some understanding of what is going on for me (as a person with DID) and yet when i consider some of the sceptical stuff (as i think it is important to do in order to develop a balanced picture for oneself) i'm typically jumped all over for 'debating the existence'.

sigh.

its okay peoples... i can do that kind of processing over on the psychology board.

i wish you all well.

Inny stated that she believes in DID; that she believed her case real even. To me it sounds like she was trying to understand why they would make issue of the few things they did to call her case "fake". It sounds more to me that she was defending her case as well as DID with attempting to understand why it would be an issue at all?

That said, for several just the nature of the thread "feels" it talks of the existence of DID through the reported questioning of the dx of the most publicized multiple ever..."Sybil".

Due to the above and the fact that there are some upsets developing, I'm going to go ahead and close the discussion. Maybe some could PM and continue the discussion?

Thanks,

KD
