I was finding drawings, notes, stories books and other things that belonged to the alters since before I was 5. it was just normal for me to find a picture I didnt remember drawing and my parents saying to me "what a pretty picture you drew". i just grew up accepting it this way, I thought everyone drew pictures they didnt remember doing. over the years some of those pictures my parents hung on the fridge, or my bedroom wall. other times the pictures were put together into a scrap book. Sometimes I would use them to fill in the blanks of what I didnt remember and other times the pictures were thrown away, just how it was. when i was an adult and found pictures i just continued to either frame and hang them, use them to fill in my memories or put them in a scrap book or throw them away. After I was diagnosed with DID my therapist and I used them to help fill in the blanks of memories, emotions, traumatic events or just had fun hanging them, putting them in a scrap book or throwing them away. in other words nothing happened after I got the diagnosis that didnt happen before the diagnosis.

I look and think,"did I do that? Wow. Cool." And I try to let go the weirdness of not remembering doing it.

At first, We'd usually stare at it at first trying to find some connection, then it's like whatever, move on.
It's just a constant reminder of this condition that I just don't want to be bothered with it.

Ignore it and it will go away kind of thing.

Ignoring and thinking it will go away, scares the alter/s who drew them. They don't want to go away But, they don't need to go away, they need to be integrated into the whole you. Remind them that they are an important part of you. Some of them remember some good things "for you". Of course, some remember a lot of bad too. But those bad things are still part of you and made you who you are today. You would not be the strong, successful, survivor that you are without all of the things you've experienced.

Dissociation and switching were a valuable and necessary survival tool at one time.

I keep thinking I just want it/them to go away as well. It won't. I have to fight and figure out how to accept it. Them. It's getting a bit easier, thankfully I have a wonderful T who is brilliant at her job and is extremely helpful. One hour at a time, keep trying to focus, listen and talk.
