Is it possible to have developed an alter as a child who was in control most of your childhood and then in your late 20s, when you have been away from abuse for a while, your host is more in control (although your child alter does still make an appearance) but suddenly things from your past come back to you experienced by your child alter? I am know I dissociated as a child and have done so as an adult but am wondering if I have an alter.

we can not tell you whether this situation was an alter or not. only your treatment providers can make that diagnosis but I can answer....in general, not directly related to you....

yes it is possible to have alters who are in control most of childhood who have the traumatic memories and then in adult hood the person regains those memories. its called by many things in my location DID, OSDD, repressed memories, schizophrenia ....even medical conditions and medications can cause a person to lose their memories, perceive their self as having alters then in adulthood gain those memories back.

since this is the Dissociative boards speaking just on that in my location when this happens its called integration (where memories and alters become one whole person again.)

again only your own doctors can tell you what is happening\what had happened with in you. my suggestion contact your treatment providers. they can help you figure this out.

Possible. Happened to us, just the original, the one born with the body, is not here. But I dissociated when she was around 10 and Waidth and Vladimir came at around 4 or 5 and Evee at about 1, so it is possible, but don't take it as a diagnosis, better go check from a proffesional just to be sure

it's possible. it depends on your experiences, symptoms, etc. which would be best to be discussed with a professional.

for myself, i always have known i had others. up until a few years ago, i was very dissociated, like a revolving door and lost among the others. then when things stabilized and huge life events happened, for some reason, the others went more quiet, and i spent the last few years defining myself and being able to function relatively well where the others are only around in more subtle ways or when triggered.

it took me the last 12 years to even talk about it all with my psychiatrist, so i have a confirmed (to me) diagnosis now of DID. i was too scared to say certain things for fear of not being believed even though it all is very real to me.
Thanks for this!
