here in my location (new York) this article is now used as a good article for the Somatic Symptom and Related Disorders listings ... Somatic Symptom Disorder Illness Anxiety Disorder Conversion Disorder (Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder) Psychological Factors Affecting Other Medical Conditions Factitious Disorder Other Specified Somatic Symptom and Related Disorder Unspecified Somatic Symptom and Related Disorder because the information in the article is about how dissociation shows itself in physical health problem ways. the reason my location puts this article in with this grouping is because here in my location dissociation showing itself in physical ways is part of these mental disorders. great article though, lots of medical information on how the brain works. |

Using the DSM as something godly is quite dangerous.
Also, in Europe, conversion disorder is listed under dissociation. Manuals are tools, they must be used with a brain attached. |

here a person can have more than one mental disorder if they fit the diagnostic criteria.... example having depersonalization /derealization disorder (or any other dissociation disorder) and have a somatic disorder like conversion disorder (where dissociative disorders affect and show itself in medical\physical ways) I wasnt saying it doesnt happen, just that my location does not use this article with in the dissociative category. my location due to the articles content (dissociation causing physical problems and showing itself in physical ways) uses the article with in the somatic category. your location may do it differently. I know that outside the USA they do still sometimes list somatic disorders in the dissociative category. I wasnt saying they dont. just saying how things are done in ....my own.... location. |
