I was in a car accident a few weeks ago and I am still feeling the pain. I havent been able to go to the gym or ride my bike. I can't even do sit ups. I feel like I am going to go nuts. I have been watching sports and even now that is not enough to keep my mind occupied. I am finding myself alone with myself and it feels like I am living inside my head. Like I am not real. It's a feeling I usually avoid by doing something. Right now I am ready to freak out.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that you were in an accident and that you are in pain. Sometimes derealization can accompany depression or anxiety (or both). This could have been caused by your accident, too. Many people start to feel "down" when injured and their mobility is impaired, they are in pain, etc.

I hope you feel better. Have you told your doctor about your psychological symptoms? Take care.
Thanks for this!

Hello lucidity11: I'm sorry you are experiencing this difficulty. I recall the pain I was in years ago following a fairly serious auto accident. I also had to have some surgery a few years back. And I've had some fairly serious low back problems over the years. In both cases I was told that it was very important to get up & get moving as much as possible as soon as possible. If it meant taking pain med's in order to make that possible, then that was preferable to not getting up & moving.

Of course I wasn't going to be going to the gym, riding a bike, or doing sit-ups. Following my surgery, all I could do was to walk up-&-down the hall outside of my hospital room pushing my IV stand. Perhaps what is important here for you at this point is simply to do whatever you can do, even if it's just going for short walks... whatever you can manage. I wish you well with your recovery...
Thanks for this!

Sometimes I feel so profoundly isolated. I could be in a room full of people right now and not feel connected to anyone.

I had it all the time in a tearful way due to depression, so I got prescribed anti-depressants that has helped me a lot. But of course, it just had to make my mood flip flop in an ultra-rapid cycle way, so they added a stabilizer and called me bipolar.

I hope you get to feeling better.

Thanks for this!
