I have a six year old alter with whom I get along famously. She is beyond helpful, supportive, etc. Our financial situation become strained a few years ago and money has been very tight, but recently it has improved somewhat. To put that into perspective, we are still under the federal poverty level...but just barely. Anyway, I've decided to, and offered her an allowance of $10/wk beginning next week. While I buy her things regularly, and have no plans to stop doing so, this would give her money that is hers alone to decide what to do with.

Has anyone tried this? Were the results generally positive?

It seems like our bank account is a free for all. I make it and they spend it.

But if you have that kind of control....heck yeah it sounds like a great idea. This job blew away the poverty level for us but I'm trying to pay off credit cards and over due bills. Thanks guys!

no I never tried this. the way my system was set up was when I dissociated the alters took control, each alter had their own sense of agency. if doing things with money was part of their sense of agency then while they were in control they bought, spent or saved all on their own. I the aware self was left hanging many times with bills and such things, because the others were buying \spending/ saving\ hiding money. in some ways my alters were better at finances then I was due to doing stressful things like balancing a bank book, paying bills would result in my dissociating and which ever alters who's sense of agency was managing these things took control and did them.

After my alters and I all became one whole person again I actually had to take a financing \ accounting \ banking classes to learn how to do the stuff the alters had been doing for me that I now had to handle on my own.
Thanks for this!

we do this for several of the younger ones. sometimes we just buy them a treat, but usually we just give them their own money and let them get what they want.

I think if you have that level of coconsciousness it is a great idea. There aint nothing wrong with system cooperation.
In the past we have bought things if we knew someone wanted something but didn't shop themselves. (ie for littles). ones that are out and about just go ahead and buy things for themselves. We have never done a formal allowance before tho.
Thanks for this!

Everyone knows our pin number. We tend to share very important things like that. Some can't remember our DOB though.
Thanks for this!
