I'm sorry this prolly sounds very mean and maybe it is...
I've noticed an extraordinarily limited vocabulary amongst mental health workers in the uk (obviously not all of them..) The same words occur over and over again.... I must try not to open my mouth because my teeth are sharp ![]() Respectful regards ..... ![]() Ps I also feel that some of these words are not used in the best interest of the consumers, by the providers ![]()

that, or they just hire people because they are their and can work sinario: mental health team short of workers, someone comes for an interview, wasn't great.. but because they are so short, they get the job anyway- even if they have no mental health qualifications queue the mental health system being messed up, and that person hurting a lot of people |

Hi Fuzzybear, I know what you mean. Mental health providers learn certain phrases that can be effective in helping clients feel understood or supported. Unfortunately, when they rely too much on the use of those phrases, it can backfire and make clients feel like they are just receiving a sort of canned therapy technique, rather than a real therapeutic encounter that is based on their unique circumstances and problems. Is that what you're talking about? |

![]() Also there are times when the provider is completely out of their depth with the client and instead of admitting that, they rely heavily on platitudes in some cases which can be very invalidating (at best)

like this...?
"and you're not alone, its a normal reaction, i have lots of clients with the same symptoms" ? i know its supposed to make me not feel alone... and like my problems can be understood... but it makes me feel like im being normalized again, since thats what everyone has done my whole life... "its normal, dont worry about it" so it makes me feel even smaller.. and lonelier... and misunderstood... rather than helping... is that bad..?

I know what you mean - that feeling of being alone
![]() Mad doctor said "we all" blah blah (Super limited vocabulary ![]() But with all his "failings" he still made me feel smaller, more unheard (like all of my life I was unheard) and more worthless ![]() ...mad therapist said how I'd "always been alone" ![]() And at the end of the therapy... He forced an ending...how he/they were going to "normalise" me It's a mad world ![]()

I wanted to add, that if you've ever used samaratans,
most limited ever all they say is.. " and how does that make you feel?" like talking to a robot 1 day I want to ring them up and say (in my best miss piggy impression), hey, this is miss piggy, I'm starring in a new muppet movie soon them: and how does that make you feel? me: and i thought I was meant to be the muppet here. lol |
