I know more about dissociative disorders than the other diagnoses that I have been given since 1992. So I feel more comfortable having conversations in this forum than the others.
I have been given a borderline personality disorder diagnosis by the staff at the VA Clinic in Lake City, Florida but they never set up any type of treatment plan for me. I was there for ten years! It is this type of behavior on the part of mental health professionals that makes me feel extremely paranoid. But the point is that I do not know what to say in that forum. It is my understanding with BPD the patient grew up in a very dysfunctional family and did not develop appropriate life/social skills. (I have heard that the mental health professionals label self harmers as BPD but I suspect those people have a dissociative disorder.) Most of my current problems come from not having a mental health professional on my side. What can you post about that? I live with paranoia, fear, depression, anxiety, anger, etc. but I do not know what to say about those feelings that would help other people. I am also totally isolated in life. I just emailed my sister and told her that I was going to move back to Lake City and put myself back in the Jenkin's Veterans' Domiciliary. It is the best place for me. My sister emailed back and implied that I was asking her for money!!! I did not say anything about that. I did move to Athens hoping that I would have some contact with my sister but only as a family member. I have seen her twice since May so there is no point in me staying here. She does not have any other family member and I don't so I thought we could develop a late relationship. I was trying to make up for a life of estrangement. I am rambling so I will quit. ![]() |

I go according to how the site is set up.. if Im having a problem with my other mental problems I post in those boards or if I see post in other boards I feel I can help with I post. one thing about psych central you may not be aware of.... if a person posts their non dissociative problems in dissociation that thread get moved to what ever board that the post fits in.... for example if I write a post about my MS related problems a moderator will come along and move that post to the health problems board. if I post my bipolar problems in this board the moderator will move my post to bipolar disorder board.... thats what all those posts you see the word "moved" and dashes are, those are threads in all the boards where the moderators have been doing their job of keeping all the boards orderly and on topic of what that board is meant for. here in this forum discussions on dissociation, dissociative disorders of any kind happen here. sometimes if a person has many problems going on at the same time its hard to decide where that post fits in, when that happens to me I ask a moderator where the post would best fit. that way I dont wake up the next morning and discover I cant find my post because its been moved. Im guessing the reason this site is set up this way is so that people posting problems will get the answers they need from the people who are going through that problem with that mental disorder. as for your question of whether self injurers mostly get labeled with borderline personality disorder...to get this answer you would probably have to contact your local mental health agency and ask them if you can have any statistical information about percentages of each mental disorder they treat that are also self injurers. other then that you would probably have to ask someone in the self injury board or the borderline personality board. by the way just my brain noticing something tying two or your threads together..... this one and another one....recently you wrote a post about not being diagnosed titled why cant I get a diagnosis, or something like that and here in this thread you state you have been diagnosed.... just a thought here.... maybe you can write down what your diagnosis's are so that if there are others in your internal system that are not aware that you have been diagnosed will understand that you have and what they are.... sometimes people with alters forget or dont realize they have diagnosis's until someone in their system shares that information with everyone. |

hey.
I really wouldn't worry about what to say in the other forums i'd just say, hey I just got a diagnoses of this, and have some questions (then proceed to ask the questions) all the forums are very supportive and they won't mind (how do you think most members started?. lol) of course, we still want you here too (((((hugs)))) |

I just look at the post try not to pay much mind to the forum. If it's something I think I understand or am curious about or think I can add something helpful I will post if not well usually I know when I start reading..if it's not for me it's either triggering or just doesn't hold my interest move on..
But I'm most comfortable here too. ![]() ~Scarlett♡☆ **I'm going in to rest for awhile. I don't know if I'll be in and out or what... but I hope the others keep posting until I am fixed.**

I tend to post on the condition that concerns me the most. It used to be the bipolar board....but pills fixed that. This dissociative condition has made all other mental illnesses not seem so important anymore.
What does it matter? Any board that I post on I will always feel like a flat tire. It seems like for BPD, usually bipolar meds to stabilize the mood swings and DBT groups. |
