Has anyone ever felt like the names of your personalities must remain a secret?
One of my personalities doesn't like anyone beside me and the others knowing or saying his name and feels that if just anyone uses it or worse yet if someone in my family uses it that he will have to change it to something else as if it had become tainted or something. I've also noticed that I feel this same way about all of my personalities and that's part of the reason that we don't let anyone know our names. It's as if if anyone in my family were to find out, my entire system would be destroyed and we would all cease to function or completely loose our mind.
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone else? I have been this way since I was a small child. It's the same way with other words that are important to me on a sexual level too like stuff that I'm into. It's weird and hard to explain. Could this be connected with sexual abuse maybe?

Yes, definitely. There are only a couple of parts that will let T know their names when they are out. Sometimes some parts will tell T the names of other parts but not often. In session a couple of weeks ago one part told T the names and ages of several parts that had been active at that time and T looked very pleased with herself. She probably felt like she was being let into the inner circle or something.
There does seem to be a thing about not letting T know our names. (We don't tell other people our names because none of our parts talk about DID to other people). We are generally very secretive about it. I think it is to do with power. If we give our names to anyone they might have the ability to have power over us (I think this is related to abuse experiences).

Yup, we have one alter that assures us he knows his job & will absolutely positively be there to do it when the need arises. Otherwise just leave him alone. We rarely hear from that one or need to refer to him. Another says names are for 'summoning' & he/she is not a dog that comes when called. But he/she has been around lately and very willing to stick his/her 2¢ into any conversation. U probably know what we call him/her..Summons!

I agree, Amyjay that this secretive stuff may be related to abuse but, what I'm dreading and getting a gut feeling about is that it (with me anyway) is a repulsive fear of being touched.
Possible trigger:

Scariest of all is that when I get these intense gut feelings I'm usually right and on top of that I have a family member that I feel sexually uncomfortable around and I don't like that person to say words that I like or that are special to me.

Also what cavaliers said about names being for summoning. I can summon different personalities to take over for me when I'm stressed or afraid.
