kinda curious can an alter make another alter? one of my alters is going through a really rough time with flashbacks and did something that we weren't supposed to and one of our support people who happens to be a liscenced hypnotist and counsler of sorts asked her that alter to "make an angel" that she had to go to if she felt like doing that again to talk to and find alternatives. this is becoming confusing the more i try to explain from what i read in the archive of the convo... i think i'll leave it at that.

sorry... don't know... if I have a "real" answer... just one from my own experience.... an alter can split...become a twin - when there is duress... or further trauma.... then.. they can go back together... or... the twins.. can age differently... one progresses faster... so they remain separate....

not sure this helps....but tried.....

From what I read in your post it is not that your alter is making another alter...... but rather that she is making a safe person/place to go too when she feels scared or frighten.

Example:
Like when I made a Victorian Home for all my little alters to go and be safe in...... my oldest alter (72 yrs old) watched over them and made them fresh cookies every day - and their beds were far up off the floor so no one could touch them while they were on the bed (their safe place).

I think alters can make other alters
but i think that yours needs more time to figure out if that is what actually happened.

i think that such talk is difficult within the system because it feels similar, and therefor is hard to distinguish between. I have had things like that, too. I though others were created, but it didn't last. Or it was a mental picture (like a safe place/person) to go to, but not functioning independently like the alters - just as a figment... like an imaginary friend. But when trying to look at all that, for me, the lines blur... does that make sense?

Sure. The dissociation is meant to be a coping strategy and it sounds like the hypnotherapist is encouraging you to use it in order to cope.

If you find a comfort in it, I don't see the harm.

our alters definitely made other alters as a coping strategy, & they were operational too, but they seem to vanish when the need is gone, not like the real alters question question
sorry no definition of a "real" alter, we'll think about it, and if anyone calls us a hysterical neurotic we will cry & sulk, even if that is the stupid definition in the book.
question question question question question question question

thanks guys... i still am not sure what's going on. there are already safe alters and a safe place to go to. so i don't know if the little one in question is just not feeling safe going there or not. could it also be that she knows there is another alter named what she was naming "the angel" the hypnotist person was asking her to create that we just don't know about? (don't know if that last bit made much sense) anyway thanks for the help. i'm still trying to figure it out.
