I am supposed to be starting with yet another therapist sometime next month. I am so tired of having to go over everything all over again. I wish there was some way I could just type something up, send it to the person ahead of time, and say,"If you think youcan deal with this, and especially if you believe what I'm saying, then we can meet face to face." I'm just so tired of running into folks who either don't believe the disorder exists, or don't want to believe that what causes the disorder could actually happen. I just want to say that they need to get their heads out of the sand or get out of the field.
Sorry, just needed to gripe a lil. Annie |

I know just what you mean. I have done just what you describe, write it out and give it to them.
Can you do it? I mean, can you write it out and address it to the new T, place it in an envelope and drop it in the mail slot? If you can't do that, can you write it out and give it to them at the beginning of the session and explain that you are very hesitant to talk until you can trust that they will be able to work with you? ((((Annie)))) BJ

Annie, could you have a brief conversation by phone before beginning therapy? You wouldn't need to give the T all the details. You could just say, "I have DID, is this something you have experience treating?" If they say no, then you don't need to waste your time going to an appointment.

Have you tried locating a doctor that specializes in DID - I found a few around where I live and it took me four tries (four doctors) to finally find the right one that worked for me...... I even did a two month out patient program for DID.... I loved it most days.

Yeah, i just started with a new t about 7 months ago and like by week 3 i called and laid things on the line (since she had told me she was new to this - even as a PsyD). I told her that it is devastating to a DID system for a t to figure out that they can't handle it and transfer the patient. So, she needed to decide now if we'd continue or not. She appreciates the "clear communication".
good luck annie, kiya
