I am curious if anyone else has had this problem. I will be thinking about a situation and zoning into it like a daydream and I will start to speak quiety out-loud to the person I am addressing in my daydream, it will last for 30seconds to a minute, I am fully aware of what is going on around me but it's somewhat alarming. Thoughts?

Hi Coil,
I don't think I do that, but I knew someone who used to. He used to go over scenarios in his head, sometimes based on previous conversations with someone and sometimes it would be what if this was said type stuff. I don't think it's anything to be alarmed at. The brain processes things the way it needs to, in my opinion. Nice to meet you and welcome to Psych Central. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thank you so much for your reply, to even get a reply to this question was a huge relief. I think you're right about the processing of the brain and it's odd ways of dispensing everything. Nice to meet you too and thank you for such a warm welcome

Maybe you sort things out easier if you verbalize them. Everyone works through things in their own way. Welcome to PC.

Hi, and welcome to PC!
While I don't do this, I would think that it's not something to be alarmed about either. It sounds to me that it's just a deeper level of consciousness with the "daydream". If that's the case, it could actually be a cool thing when anxious or what have you? Has it caused problems in your life, or is it just something you noticed about yourself? Again, welcome! KD

hi Coil, welcome to PC.com! i can't say i relate to what you describe but i agree with other posters who said it sounds like your method of processing some kinds of situations.
people have different learning styles and there is no one correct and only way to learn. so, it seems to me there is no one correct way to process information and sift it. sometimes thinking about myself can scare me, has that ever happened to you? sometimes i am fine with myself, quirks and all and other times i wish i was "joan banana, one of the bunch". glad to meet you! leslie and her pixies

Hey, thanks for the replies and warm welcome
![]() It's mainly something I have noticed about myself, though it has been noticed by others who would ask "Are you alright?". I would get startled by their voice and respond "Yeah, I am fine, just drifted off". I guess the alarming factor is due to how vivid these are, sometimes more so than other times. Re: sometimes thinking about myself can scare me, has that ever happened to you? Yeah, thinking about myself can definitely put me in an abrupt state of panic depending on how deep the thoughts are. |

my mom does that all the time. then i ask her what she is talking about and she gets mad at me and tells me she wasn't speaking. =( or she'll address me as if i am the person she was thinking about and then be angry that i don't understand. "you know, the guy we wen't to school with!!!" ..mom... i didn't go to school with you... i wasn't born yet..... now it is a funny joke between us - she thought i was her best friend. but at the time, it was a little alarming for me, heh.
