I just ordered a book called "The Stranger In the Mirror" - the one that is listed in the reviews section and I was wonder if any one knows if this is the story that is told from the first person pov as the person goes through DID at home, work, with in life and at the T?
I am not for sure if this is the first book I ever read on the subject of DID after being Dx with it twelve years ago, as I remember the book I checked out from the library being white and not brown as this one is. Here is the link to the review of the book here on PC. http://forums.psychcentral.com/revie...duct/116/cat/5 I can't wait to get this book in my hand again IF it is the same one I am thinking about.... as the book I read was AWESOME and was written from a laymens pov - a very easy read & great understanding of how DID works. Thanks for any help... ![]() |

No Rhapsody, it isn't one person's pov although there is one section that people share their experiences. It's about Dissociative Disorders of all types, not just DID. It was written by a psychiatrist as a guide for identifying and recovering from the disorders. The book is broken up into different parts. I am copying this from my own book that's in front of me. Part One -- Dissociation What It Is And Is Not Part Two -- Recognizing The Signs And Rating Your Symptoms Part Three -- Inside Stories Part Four -- Befriending The Stranger |

I have that book, and I think it is a good one. It is by a psychologist, and, as Orange Blossom said, she explains what dissociation symptoms are, ahd how to recognize them. It is about more than DID. There are screening questionnaires in the book to see which symptoms you might have (like the one on the author's website, for Depersonalization, on which I just scored 56). One criticism of the book is that it tends to read like an infomercial for the diagnostic test that the author created. That is a bit irritating, but it is still a great book.

Kewl - even though it is not the book I thought it was I am still excited about getting this book in my hands so I can get lost in a few hours of reading... guess I will have to take a trip back to the local library and see if the books I read twelve years ago is still there - if it I will post about it.

Rhapsody...
The book u may b thinkin of is First Person Plural. That is a REALLY good book about a guy who shares his life going thru DID on a daily basis...it is a very good read, an seems ta b a good outcome...they do come to a concensus of cooperation rather than everyone integratin...which is somethin we cant evn think of cuz it causes too much scard feelins with everybody...there r some other good books too if u wanna know them u might find them up in the resources post... abbi of Jewels

Hi,
A book that I wish I could have read when I was first diagnosed is "Multiple Personality Disorder from the Inside Out." It explains things to the newly diagnosed person plus it has chapters on how to explain to family members, husbands, wifes, and friends etc... I still think that is the best book. I wish I knew where to get "Paperclip Dolls." They only sold it online for a short time so if you didn't get a copy you won't and we didn't so a book weere looking for. Thanks for posting! ![]()

Thanks everyone for the help with the book.... I am fairly up to date on how the whole DID thing works now after living with it after being Dx over 12 years ago.... I just love the first book I read with the name "Stranger in the Mirror" that I was excited to maybe have found it again... it would have felt so thrilling to have read it again.

I own the book and have read it. It is a good book with a lot of information.
I also have one titled Lost in the Mirror by Richard Moskovitz M.D. It is a personal story with an insid look a BPD. |
