I have decided to move away from the other thread and ask that the other thread be deleted.

Im new here so heres some stuff about me -

My diagnostis are as follows:

Axis I: PTSD, Seasonal Affective Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Axis II: Depersonalization, Derealization, Dissociative Amnesia, and a history of Dissociative Fugue
Axis III: Anemia
Axis IV: Social netwworking is affected by financial difficulties.
Axis V: GAF 52

I used to be diagnosed DID but then my alters and I integrated. we are hoping now that my alters have been integrated I dont wander and start a new life so that Dissociative Fugue can be ruled out during my next psychiatric evaluation.

I get tired easy cause of the anemia. the seasonal affective disorder isnt too bad. happy in the spring and summer down in the late fall and winter. I take lexapro during my down months and off of it during my spring and summer months. I havent wandered to another town and set up home as an alter since being integrated. I still have problems with the amnesia cause during high stress times I fade in and out of numbness, tunnel vision and out of body feelings. Sometimes it gets really funky cuase everything around me looks 3 dimentional exagerated like seeing orbs or auras but not quite like that. just feels like that sometimes like the things arent real.

Im a college student so most of my interating with peers is sitting in a classroom or hanging out in the lunch room called beadrick hall something like that. every room and builing on campus has a name that is Something Hall. Sometimes I hang out out on the terrace. this college is right on the edge of the lake. Its real quiet out there most of the time.

I'm more myself now and just took meds, so they haven't hit me yet =)
So you're in college and already integrated? Like, young in college, or going back to college? Just curious =) Now that my brain is working a little quicker.

Hi, Thanks for the intro. I am in college too. I returned after a 15 year absence. I am DID with major depression and some other stuff. I work full time so I only can take on class at a time. Right now I am in English 101. I have 3 classes left and I get my AA degree. Then I will start a certificate program for Drun and Alchohol Counseling. I am like Kiya I would like to know if this is your first run at college or are you a returner like me.

I am no where near integration of my parts. In fact I know very little about my parts. They call themselves Clan members. Not sure why. I look forward to getting to know you more.

Thanks
Diana

Diana...That's great, good for you!! I am also heading back to school here soon. I want to major in Social Work and ultimately work with children in private practice. One of my goals is to become fluent in sign language so that I can help children who might be developmentally delayed due to trauma or other genetic/environmental issues, or pre-verbal, and help them to be able to communicate with their caregivers. I'm excited to be going back, although it seems overwhelming at the same time.

I've already got a professional degree in Health Care, but am looking forward to a career change someday!!

Not so young for college Im 28 most students here are younger than I am. I have been in coolege since I was 17. (court emancipated minor at that age, I wanted to get my GED instead of going to school my senior year. the college had a GED program. After I got my GED I continued on here with college classes. Some semesters I am a matriculated (full time course load) student other semesters I am non matriculated (not full time course load). I graduate this June and then begin my internship with a mental health agency here in town. Yes I am integrated. I have been in therapy since I was 17. Integration started happening about three years ago, completed about 6 months ago.

Hello Amandalouise, I'm Miri and I'm new here, too. It's great that you are pursuing your education! I see that this is true for a number of people here. I went to university in my forties and eventually achieved a masters degree in education, but my career was derailed by depression, insomnia and therapy for childhood trauma and of course, for DID. I love school - both teaching and learning, so I envy all of you who are taking courses. It isn't easy doing that and dealing with mental health issues. I salute you all! I'm glad you have come here; I'm glad that I've found this place! Thanks to everyone for creating a safe place of belonging.

Yes upstate New York is where I go to college.

yes I know 11 years is a long time. it would have only been 2 years for my Liberal Arts degree and then 2 years for my BS if I had taken a full course load every year. But I didnt do that. Some semesters I took a full course load and some I took only one or two courses. Im aiming for my Masters starting in the fall.

No I have never been to Oregon, never been outside New York State.

I went to school later in life. It was a struggle with what was going on in my head, but I didn't know what was going on then. Looking back, I remember only tiny pieces of school but I'm still glad I went. I didn't know that college was an option due to my family life and I think I wanted to escape so much that the focus of the brain here was to just get away.

I do remember having all these notes from class, pages and pages and not remembering writing them. That stuff always had happened though so I didn't even think about it. I didn't know it wasn't normal. I found out later that it was a recorder type part of my brain that did/does that. Even though I didn't remember writing notes, those notes are what helped me get knowledge from the classes. I used to think I was stupid because of my lack of memory of so much but since I've gotten more awareness of what goes on for me, I've realized that I am smarter than I once thought. Sometimes I think, if all my brain was put together, I'd be an intelligent person. But, with the separations, it often seems like I don't know what I'm talking about.

I wish I had known back when I was in my 20s that I had DID. I didn't find out until I was 40 I think or late 30s (wait, I'm in my forties?! ). I often wonder how life would have gone if I'd been able to gain the awareness I have now, then. My children wouldn't be so messed up, that's for sure. DID sure took a toll on them, from having an inconsistent mom to not knowing who I needed to protect them from. My T and I have talked about that. What if I'd found out that I had DID back when I was 18 or 20. Where would I be now. T said that a lot of people don't get diagnosed with it until later in life though. According to T, it generally takes something that disrupts what was working. For me, I think it was husband dying and then son's rages. Specifically son's rages as that threw me back into a time in my life when I wasn't safe.

Awareness is hard, but for me, necessary to a better life. Hmm, I was just going to talk about college, lol. Anyway, that's all about me.

I didn't know we had a competition here to see who is the most educated! (My bad!)

I left home at the age of 15 so I never had the chance to go to uni back then but I made up for it in later life. I have 11 or so Doctoral level certs in clinical psychology. Was with the best T in the whole wide world but he passed away recently (I miss him so much.) Due to DID, I am often in denial about my qualifications, had many fights with my proff about it but then DID makes sure you're in the shitt most of the time! Many is better than one!

Anyway, welcome! Hope I can be of some help to you.

I don't believe we were having a contest, Pegasus. I only got an AA and took twice as long to do it because after getting it the first time, I changed my course of direction and started over, lol. But I'm still thankful. Thanks for sharing all about you as well.

Pegasus....No contest here on education...just sharing our experiences!!

Sorry to hear about your T... That must be very difficult. I feel very emotionally close to my T. I don't think she realizes how important our therapeutic relationship is to me. I don't know what I would do if my T passed away!!

Glad you're here, and whether education worked out for your or not, you are still valuable to this world, and to this forum, so hope we didn't cause you to feel like you weren't!!

Take care....

I wasn't aware that we could all join in with our own stuff seeing the topic was titled "All About Me."

For Me, Myself and I, my only real and valuable education is Hard Knocks Life 101.

Hard Knocks 101...? I think I minored in that before getting my degree!! In fact, I still take courses in that field of study!! LOL

I was a little concerned about posting info about myself too! But I did it anyway, because it would be silly to think someone just wanted a thread all to themselves, right?

This forum is for everyone. I think the mods have done a good job at making that CRYSTAL clear!!
