Is it just like regular inpatient? Is it at a regular mental hospital? Or are there special ones specially for dissociation?

I am wondering, because when I went inpatient, you weren't allowed to have any kind of what they would consider "toys"
(i.e. my coping mechanisms - stuffed animals, binkis, etc)

And I have come to the realization that I want to go back inpatient, so they can (hopefully) figure out what is going on with me and all my dissociation, depersonalization(or whatever it is) episodes.

Yeah I agree, I would look into a hospital that specializes in tramua and Dissociative Disorders. If your going to into the hospital you need to be at a place where you can get the most out of it. It might be out of state, but must hospitals like that will make arrangements with your insurance. Best of luck to you. I hope you find some place that will be able to help you.

the hospital uptown that I was in is a normal hospital with a mental ward in it. I was able to take personal items with me and have them with me as long as I wasnt suicidal and wasnt doing any self harm things. they treat all kinds of mental problems including dissociation stuff on the unit.
Thanks for this!

The hospital here does not allow personal items such as stuffed animals, etc, regardless of suicidal thoughts and/or si behaviors unless there is consent by the treatment Dr and the individual's T. It might be that if you go to a local hospital, you can talk to the Dr there about taking what you need for self soothing. It is possible at the hospital here, albeit not a normal procedure. I would think most hospitals do treat dissociation. I have read some good things about hospitals that are geared toward dissociative disorders though too. Good luck with finding what works for you. Please keep us posted.

A few years ago when my DID was really severe, I was thinking of going for DID treatment at a hospital, it was far away (I think eastern Washington) and I live in western Washington State, and sadly this hospital closed down I think due to funding issues.

we were hospitalized in the Summer of 2007 or 2008, and it was NOT fun; It was basicly like a prison! If you do go to a hospital, make sure they treat you like a human being.
