Hello all,

I am a 20 year old college student. Last year i was severely depressed and began taking wellbutrin xl 300 mg daily. After 6 months of taking it I had lost about 15 lbs and felt really great about myself. Recently i have been weening myself off of the medication at the advisement of my doctor and now am completely off of the pills. However now i have had intense urges to eat, have been binging regularly and can't stop thinking about food. I have put on all the weight i lost and maybe even a little more. I exercise daily but i just can't stop binging and eating in secret. Please help.

Antidepressants can really suck, especially when they impact our eating patterns!

I understand.

Since you're a college student, do you have access to a doctor or nutritionist? I'd also recommend seeking out counselling to deal with whatever underlying issues are making it more difficult to control what you eat.

Here for you!

Hi Barca,

why is your doc weening you off of a drug that worked for you?

What little I know about wellbutrin.

- Its prescribed for those who have adhd and depression

- it was used for smoking sessation.

- not sure if its for OCD which eating disorders fall under OCD.

one problem is its not recomended for those with anorexia becuase of a need to lose more weight than whats healthy because of various reasons.

So if you were under weight and losing more then I could see where you might get taken off.

If your a binger with a voracious appitie like women with compulsive over eating and bulimia with out anorexia . then it shoud not be a problem.
there are various reasons doctors take patients off .of drugs.

and thier reasoning is not always right.
let your doc know it was helping you and how .

There are other ways to deal with binging even if you feel depressed . You can figure out how you use food for your health rather than have food use you.

drugs help but they are not the cure.
