I do not eat food most of the time it is once a day and only like a quarter of whatever. When I am with a friend I eat everything that she gives me but only when I am with her. She is like a second Mother to me. Is this an eating disorder ?

You need to look at what is causing you to eat once a day to start with. You need to look at your motivation of why you aren't eating. Most ED's have a lot of pain behind why the person isn't eating.....not just body image issues like they would have you believe. They may turn into body image issues, but they are not the root of the problem. With what you have given us here, there is nothing to go on besides the fact that this is not were to get a DX of an eating disorder in the first place really need a Dr or Pdoc to determine that.

It isn't healghy to eat only one time a day.....that is a given but just the fact that you eat only once a day doesn't define it as an eating disorder.

Maybe if you post more about your situation is woud help you understand yourself better also.....we are here to listen & support

Like eskielover says, you have to look at the thought processes behind your behavior. If you're not eating for emotional reasons than you may have some sort of ED going on.

How long have you been eating so little? If it's been a significant period of time you might want to mention this to your doctor so that he/she can run the appropriate tests to see if there are any medical problems that have come about due to this. You can probably start by telling your therapist about your concerns, they will likely refer you to a Pdoc in order to make sure your physical health is okay and they will work on your emotional stuff. It sounds like you might be suffering from some disordered eating if you feel fat after eating so little. Don't worry, you're not alone and there are plenty of options for you! Take care.

I believe that it is the way you percieve your weight and your relationship with food. I have kept mine well hidden. If I have to eat in front of others I eat lots, but in isolation I dont eat never. At home if my husband is working I normally forget to have breakfest and lunch. I eat my evening meal if he is home to stop him worrying. I am now seeing a dietician who I havnt seen since christmas time I have put on weight and am now restricting to lose it. My psychiatrist is like you need to eat well etc, etc. At the moment I feel overweight (I am only just in the acceptable weight fo my height ) I thought I could get over this but it is hard and I probably need more help with my ED than I really want to admit.

This is the part that particularly sounds unhealthy to me. Perhaps your body image is unrealistic. How is your self esteem?

I would definitely get checked out by a doctor and run this by your therapist. You could be totally fine and get a clean bill of health. Nothing to be frightened about. Just reach out to the professionals and see what they have to say. Remember, you are in charge of your body. Good Luck and sending good thoughts your way. phoenix47

Write them a note Roba listing what your real concerns are.

They cant treat you if they don't know what they are dealing with.

I dont have any idea what they might do. I suspect they may care for you.
Thanks for this!

Roba,
The first step is going and talking over what is going on with your eating patterns, let them guide you as to what they'll suggest you to do. I wish you the best when you go for that visit. Go soon if you can.

Roba, this is another reason that you must find some T and try and find someone that has experience treating ED's. I never used them but it sounds like they'll be harmful to your system. Perhaps if you know that you might think twice about using them. I was taking certain meds and purging (vomiting) and my T told me that it was dangerous to my heart.
I hope you can stay away from this sort of method.

For starters, what you can do about it is DON'T. Don't even get started unless you really want to mess up your system. It isn't worth it & it does't do any good compared to the harm.

Going back to another comment you made earlier about feeling fat after you eat, that is normal....remember that everything you eat goes into your stomach to digest.....it takes awile after you eat for the food to digest into your system & for the "food" to go away from your stomach. It is normal to feel a little fat after eating as it's how the body works.

Personally I have found that if I eat a few smaller meals throughout the day, I am better off as I don't put on so may calories at a time & then if I watch what I eat, it doesn't go to fat which is really what is needed to be avoided. One can loose weight & be healthy without starving yourself or using laxitives or even throwing up. Eating right & being at a healthy weight really doesn't have to be that complicated even through it seems we don't know how to make it be any other way.

A good nutritionist could help you get on a good patern of eating & what to eat....you might think about consulting one just for information.

Take care of yourself....it is important to stay healthy,
