Hello everyone. I'm just curious if many people know about Overeaters Anonymous? I only discovered the group by accident. There is a website, oa.org. It's a wonderful organization. ...goes by the same 12 steps and principles as Alcoholics Anonymous. I've been attending face-to-face meetings since September, 2011 and have had wonderful success in weight loss. I've made great use of the phone meetings, the podcasts(which I listen to as I walk on my treadmill, and it makes the time go so much faster). ...Such a relief to find others with the same issues, same feelings, struggles, triumphs... I'd love to hear about others' experiences with OA. Thoughts? Looking for online OA members to email with.

Another thing.... One of the core reasons I think OA is successful; Because of the focus on the positive! There's a good topic for OA'ers... "How has Overeaters Anonymous been successful for you"?

Hello Psyched2Survive,

Glad you posted this. I too am a member of Overeaters Anonymous. It has been the sole reason why I have been able to be abstinent from binge eating for nearly 6 months, since I joined the program. I make sure to attend an online meeting every day, contact my sponsor on a daily basis, work the steps to the best of my ability, and keep in touch with my Higher Power throughout the day. I also enjoy reading the OA literature, and meditating. I also attend a F2F meeting in my area once a week.

The program has also helped me to find a plan of eating that works for me, as well as an exercise plan I really enjoy. No longer do I obsess about doing these things in excess, exercise is actually enjoyable, and I also enjoy the food on my plan of eating!

In the past month or so, I have really been focusing on Step 12. I became a sponsor, and I lead 4 online meetings a week. Doing service to the program that saved my sanity feels wonderful.

I am glad the OA programs is working for you.
I prefer ABA groups. They have face to face and do offer some telephone meetings.

hi, anxiety. i'm also attendng an ABA group,
as recommended by my dr. i just don't know what to make of it. there is so much in the book i disagree with. some makes me cry. we only have three members as well. i vow to NEVER go again, because i honestly have no faith it will help. i can never say "i'm powerless," orthat my life hasbecome "unmanagable." without surrender there's no hope. i'm sorry if this sounds negative. i'm very happy that you get something out of it.

okay, someone filled me in on what ABA is, and now I'm confused. would someone with a (over)weight problem do ABA instead of OA?
