I am thinking about going to overeaters anonymous because I can't stop eating and I eat for the wrong reasons but I am scared to go bc I don't know what to expect from the meetings? What are overeaters anonymous meetings like? Can anyone tell me about them?

Hi there,

I was perusing the board & notice no one had responded. Made me sad. I have never been to OA. AA yes, but not OA, but good idea. I guess I should ponder it as well. I googled reviews for OA & there was not much. I am assuming (should never do that) that you checked out your local OA meeting web? I am not sure what part of AZ you are from, but there are some stories on the Southeastern AZ site - http://oasouthernaz.org/?page_id=49 & maybe on this page - http://oasouthernaz.org/?page_id=187 under virtual speakers, you could hear a past meeting. Maybe google other recorded meetings. I guess they don't have to be local if you're just trying to get a feel. I was always made to feel very welcome at AA. I was never questioned about sitting in the back & running out the door when it was over. There are sick people at these meetings don't forget - all different stages of recovery with other issues as well. They are looking for help just like us, but I learned to use good judgement. The saying goes, "take what you need & leave the rest". I hope this helps. Please let me know how it goes if you decide to go.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
