I think they screen for psychological issues before surgery. They want some assurance you will be able to follow the protocol (diet) after the surgery so you the desired results and also don't make yourself ill? But if you follow like Carnie Wilson's story, she is getting pretty big again, and I read quite a long time ago that she felt it was because she was never really prepared to give up her substance addictions.
