Bebop -

I think there is an overeaters anonymous group on the internet.

Do you want to try being accountable to each other? PM me and we can discuss, if you want.

need to lose weight

Elaine, I'm an over eater, mostly due to boredom or stress or loneliness. I found that reading labels and keeping track of how much I'm eating every day really helps. When I eat a "normal" amount of food for me - about 1200 calories give or take depending on activity levels - and compared it to how much I would eat when I didn't pay attention, it's no wonder I packed on 20 pounds in no time need to lose weight

Accountability, even just to myself, is the best thing I've found for me. I've slipped some the last few weeks and I can feel the weight creeping back on. I just don't feel as healthy anymore.

There's a weight loss thread I started in Health Support where a lot of us report in with our progress or lack thereof.

Have you ever tried the Weight Watchers Points Program? - it really works and is easy to do.... You can get the 2 books needed to get started off Ebay for half the cost.

I'm an overeater, too, especially of the wrong foods. I like to eat while I watch TV, so I like foods that I can't eat too fast. Since I also have OCD, that plays into how and when I eat as well.

I eat fattening and sweet foods too much. I love melted cheese. I worry about my health a lot, and I'm so fat and my skin is saggy, which will get worse when I do lose the weight.

I feel like crap about my looks and not being able to handle a lot of physical exertion. I think my weight has increased, because lately, my left heel hurts when I walk or put pressure on it.

Overeaters Anonymous will not work for me. I'm not interested in any group that wants me to look to a Higher Power.

Weight Watchers costs money, which I don't have. However, I've considered groups like that as possibilities if all else fails. I just don't think I'd stick with it, because I can't plan meals, even on a day-by-day basis. I can choose to eat better, but I can't plan to eat this or that tomorrow, and this the next day, because I may not be in the mood for those things.

I just need to get back into the frame of mind that I'm going to control my eating, and get the attitude that I can do it.

FYI.... with W.W. all you have to do is to buy the two books ($40) and then you can plan your meals around your daily points.... you eat regular food, not pre packaged foods and you plan what you will eat.

Sorry to hear about your overeating problem, bebop. I know its a really difficult thing to deal with, I have the same problem too. You pretty much have to be in the right frame of mind and be determined to lose weight. [thats my problem.. lack of determination].

wow thanks for all those responses! I tried the no trans fat foods...didn't work. did the no carb thing and it worked but I was driving the truck and not able to really eat that way then found out the low carb thing causes major kidney problems and I had to have kidney surgery. I feel damned if I do and damned if I don't. can't exercise either errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr so today I really didn't eat during the day and for dinner I had some chinese..almond fried chicken...a little bit and some rice. so that is an improvement for me! woo hoo lol

Ok Bepop...... first and for most you have to remember that one must EAT in order to loose weight. When you do not eat the body goes into a starvation mode, as to survive, and then it stores all the fat and will not release it - no matter what.

This is a typical day of eating for me - I lost 20 pounds in 2 month while eating this way (and) I did my daily walking (30 minutes).

Breakfast: Protein Shake w/6 strawberries

Lunch: Healthy Choice Meal w/small salad (fat free dressing)

Snack: Mini Pepsi / Mini bag popcorn (94% fat free)

Dinner: Stroganoff Helper, Cream corn, Wheat bread w/butter

>>> 2 cups water with each meal

I can't plan meals. Besides, that, my bf buys rice and pasta every week, because he likes it, and I like it because it isn't too hard to make (still, though, I hate to cook, and would gladly have it on a rare basis if I were on my own), but those are easy to overdo. I am too lazy and irritated to make something separate for me, plus I don't want extra dishes to do. If I only had to fix meals for myself, I could lose weight fairly easily.

As far as what's healthy, who knows anymore? Processed foods are generally not good for you, sugary and fattening foods are bad for you, get rid of the trans-fats, even the fruits and vegetables can be bad for you from pesticides or bacteria if you don't wash them properly, or if you buy the pre-cut and pre-washed fruits and veggies (they're more prone to bacteria). Still, I wish I was a big veggie lover and avoided a lot of sugar.

Maven and All-

I didn't know about the Higher Power thing associated with overeaters anonymous.

The pain in your heel could be a bone spur. Check with your doctor.

Hi Bebop, your post cracked me up. Yeah, let's hear it for the overeaters. Yum!!! I love eating. I gave up smoking for overeating. My stomache is getting soooo big-it's scarey to look at.
I guess I can be classified as chubby now.
My whole immediate family is chubby,
EVEN my DOGS are chubby!
It's contagious.

Hey Bop,

You might want to try a veggi diet, you can eat more (if you avoid sugar and sweeteners) to get the "full" fealing without nearly as many calories. It tends to be cheaper and is better for you and the planet they say. Idk but I gradually took it up during my starving student days (also smoking need to lose weight which may skew the results) and am still the same wieght as I was in highschool. Just a thought, good luck.

Hi Be,

You can do sort of a modified low carb diet that won't hurt you. It's hard to eat too much salad. Then have some chicken or something on the side. Yogurt makes a great breakfast and snack. That kind of thing works, believe me.

I so understand about not being able to exercise. A friend is going to let me us her treadmill for a while. I really need it. Could you possibly use a treadmill?

Hugs,

Jan

If you don't mind the taste of cellary, you can always eat that during meals or for a snack. it has negative callories- you burn callories just by eating it. green tea can be a apitite suppresant, if you have trouble with cravng things. And COLD water burns callories. it has no callories in it, so when your body heats up the water, you burn callories. ... what else... I heard that sucking - not chewing- on an ice cub can burn up to 100 callories(depending on the size), and I know it burns some callories, but I'm not so sure if it's actually that many. hope that helps!! good luck

I can't eat lots of veggies. I like them, but not a lot of them, and usually, I prefer them in a sauce (like tomato sauce) or as an ingredient to something fattening (like something stuffed with cheese). I just can't stick to that. I've tried.

Also, I don't feel full long from veggies. After a while, I will be hungry again, and need something substantial.

But for those who can, best of luck! I know it sucks to be fat.
