After 3 weeks of playing phone games with my insurance company and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, I finally found out that their services will be covered. Now I just have to wait til Monday to talk to the intake coordinator and see if there is a bed available. They only have 8 beds so they are very valuable. This really scares me because I am looking at being 4 1/2 hours away from home. I won't have any local supports with me. But at the same time, I know that I need the help. If it is meant to be, it will happen.

That's very good news! I have been thinking about you since you posted you wanted to throw in the towel. I wanted to remind you that you have someone very important in your life who looks up to you ... and even if YOU want to throw in the towel, SHE wants you alive and well. Well means having the strength to go with her to her activities, not just lying in bed or obsessing about the number of calories you've eaten/avoided.
So WTG on perservering and finding something that can help you. Local support is good, of course, but if your family isn't truly supportive and doesn't even believe you need help, then maybe it isn't so terrible going off and focusing on yourself for a while. You deserve to be well for yourself, you need to be well for your kid (and besides, do you want Mom & Dad raising her for the rest of her life?) I didn't think so. Hugs! Bub |

Good luck! You good for you for being proactive and advocating for yourself to try to find treatment! It's not easy!
Good luck with inpatient! It's hard but the more effort you put into it, the more you get out of it! |

I have talked with Iowa both yesterday and today and was told that I need to call back tomorrow and talk with the head intake coordinator to see what they can do for me. Most of their patients are partial program and my insurance doesn't cover that and besides that, I can't afford the hotel arrangements. I am praying for answers so I can get my life back together.

After all those phone games, I have to resubmit a referal to their program because it has been a month. Like that is my fault. The head coordinator still says I need a single case agreement from my insurance to cover my stay there. My insurance says they don't know what that is and as long as U of Iowa takes MO medicaid and the services that I need are covered then all is fine. The services are covered according to MO medicaid. I don't know if this means that I am not supposed to go to Iowa or what, but I wish the answer was clearer.

I know medicaid pays for the Ronald mc donald house. So they may allow you to stay at Helen K. Rossi Volunteer Guest House and do out patient until they can get everything strait for inpatient. It's worth a shot. It sucks you have to start the scary process.
