Is my therapist really able to hospitalize me because she does not believe that I eat enough? I eat what I can. I simply do not get hungry. Most days I don't get thirsty I drink at least 6 ounces of milk each day most days, that is all I drink but sometimes I will be able to drink double that. The longest I have gone without drinking is 3 days. Sunday is the last day I had any food. Can she really hospitalize me for this?

I think she can. I believe a doctor can have someone admitted to the hospital if their life is in danger. Starving oneself is considered life threatening.

My therapist sent me to the hospital because I was starving myself, so yes is the answer to your question. When you do not eat for a long period of time, you do lose your hunger signals. That is when you are in trouble, because you then have to retrain your brain to know when it is hungry and such. This can take up to a year. I have been out of the hospital since June of 2012 and am just now getting hunger signals back. I still struggle with thirst signals. Do you see a dietician as well as a therapist? This could be helpful with getting you back on track.

Under the paper work my T showed me, for other reasons, yes T's can. Eating is listed under inability to provided basic needs. As far as lack of feeling hungry there are medications that "fix" 5-HT1A receptor which is responsible for feeling hungry, anxiety, nausea, depression and other things. As far as I can find doc's can't tell if it was damaged before or after ED's.

I was at my breaking point in 2003.. Started my journey to beat this Eating disorder... my husband came home that day. My oldest son that was 13 at the time... Was home school he said dad i haven't heard mom all day. He kick in the door the next thing i remember is nothing... Stayed in a medical hospital with feeding tubes tied down and being forced feed. At the time i was in my late thirties... They kept saying I was gonna die but never did i see proof.... Went to a eating disorder facility was put on a meal plan a 4 digits meal was took for ekg on exercise restriction wheelchair all the way.... After discharge i kept coming back to the heart dr with the same results. saying I was gonna die with an eating disorder... Got a second opinion with more ekg test results came back as normal....Besides why would a dr say that? plus send out letters to my t's cause they cannot diagnose there only t's and a letter to my mom saying that... She thought why are you doing this to yourself i couldn't explain... The out come of this was a medical malpractice billing scam....To me i was a victim and kpt seeing those dr to get weigh'ins so every week i made sure i was lower than the previous week. Once i wised up and left ed t's and dr's. Is how i recovered still to this day i ponder it...

When people are starved due to famine/war and not through ED, they can die from beginning to eat in an improper manner. The International Red Cross and other relief organizations have standards according to which they begin giving nutrients to famished people, so that those people would not die.

That is independent from dying from starvation by itself - you can die from lack of fluids, starvation, OR, you can die from trying to exit the starvation mode without being extra careful.

I am not sure you are at that stage yet, but eventually you might get to the stage when you need medical professionals to feed you according to the established standards of safety, so that you do not die from how you resume eating/drinking yourself.

While you are thinking about it, you should immediately stock up on electrolyte drinks (vitamin water with electrolytes or smart water from grocery stores or vitalyte mix from REI which would be less expensive than vitamin water or smart water because it is a dry mix so you are not paying for the water itself - you are just paying for electrolytes) and drink them A LOT, because then at least you would not run into the problem with low blood pressure that Soups has brought up. At least, it would greatly prolong the time before you run into the problem.
