I asked my dr today about being prescribed this med for binge eating. I've read that it can be amazing as an appetite suppressant and helps with weight loss. Seeing as I have quite a bit to lose (I lost a lot a couple years ago, gained half back through binge eating) he prescribed it to me and I'll be starting tomorrow. I know there are a lot of possible side effects.
If you've taken it, what was your experience?

I took it for bipolar, I stopped it because anything with carbonation tasted horrid.

That would be a good thing for me lol, since I'm trying to lose weight. I don't drink a lot of pop but if I can stop completely that would be awesome

Just to mention, I haven't been using Topomax for my ED, but rather for my migraine headaches and it has been a successful med for it. Doc prescribed it as a preventative med which I take daily, and only take a migraine med when needed.
Thanks for this!

I had good luck losing weight on the Name Brand Topomax but found the generics did nothing for my weight. And, of course, my insurance wouldn't cover the name brand. Boo!

Omg I never even put two and two together...I had read about the tingling side effects but I didn't even think about the meds when I sorted to have tingling in one of my heels of my foot, it was so weird.
I am at 75mg now and it is having a bit of an effect on my appetite. I definitely don't feel like bingeing. My brain wants to, but my stomach is like "no, don't want food." So that's good. I do notice a slight taste difference when I drink pop.

Since I've started at 75 mg my appetite has definitely decreased. The last time I ate was yesterday at 2:30pm and its now 9:30am and I'm only a little bit hungry.

It's amazing to me that I haven't eaten in 23 1/2hours and I'm just a little hungry. I just need to relearn healthier eating habits now because now that I'm not hungry, I want to starve myself as long as possible.
It is helping though because I'm not eating sugar all day, definitely an improvement. I do find that sometimes nothing looks appetizing.

Ive been on Topomax for about 15 years. I have been switched to the geneit works well for that.
I was switched to generic as soon as is came out bc that's what insurance companies will usually pay for.
I take 400mg a night for severe migraine headaches as a prophylactic.
I don't know if I originally lost any weight or if it currently assists in appetite suppressant bc I've since developed gastroparesis a delayed digestion disease.
I do get tingling and peripheral neuropathy that I've never correlated as a possible side effects.
