I want to lose some weight. I wont mention numbers at all, as I know it can trigger, but it's not a huge amount of weight that I want to lose. I am very slightly over the recommended limit for my height and just want to get into that 'healthy' bracket.

The thing is, I am in Recovery from various ED's (in my life I have had Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating and a mix of all of them) and I am not sure if losing weight is ALWAYS a no-no when it comes to having had a history of EDs.

I don't plan on restricting or purging, just leaving out unhealthy things (like chocolate etc) from my diet. Surely that is healthy, right? I mean, that would not be considered a ED behaviour, it would just be healthy.

What do you think?

As long as you go about this carefully, you should be ok. Don't get into the ED mindset. Set up a healthy meal plan for yourself...eliminate junk and soda, drink plenty of water.

All the best.

Thanks for the answer, Fig

I am not planning on anything other than healthy eating. Weight loss is always frowned upon when someone has a history of EDs, but as long as i am sensible i think i'll be fine

I would worry that by losing weight you will get back into the Ed mindset

I know that happens to me, do you see a dietician who could help?

Hi Tap,

No i dont see a dietician. I can't really access one because the waiting lists are far too long via my GP.

I can understand your reservations though.

I don't think losing wt is a no no for someone that has history of ED. Whether or not the wt loss will be a trigger for you is something only will be able to answer. Your thoughts in your post sound very healthy...you want to do this in a healthy. Just keep a head of that and seek help if you notice things tipping the opposite direction.

Would you be willing to commit to a weigh in, physical, or other kind of "check-in" with your T? Set a date for it a couple months out, just to ensure no unhealthy physical signs are emerging?
I certainly think a person with ED history is capable of healthy weight loss, but its also healthy to set up some safe guards. I am glad you are going to bring it up with T.

I would not be happy to do that really. Only because i don't regularly weigh myself, and i think it would trigger me.

I can definitely understand that. I'm sorry for the bad suggestion.

No problem, you weren't to know

I probably only weigh myself once every 3 months or so. I don't actually own a set of scales so only weigh when i go to my sisters house. Hence how i know i am a bit overweight.
