Do I have an eating disorder now?

I had one plate of fries today and some orange juice. That is all.

Ok, there may be some merit in the concept. But you will need to be more careful with what. High starch and high sugar today - spikes blood sugar then insulin spikes then blood sugar crashes. That affects the body physically as well as mentally.

Try a high protein, low carb, moderate fat diet - lean red meats, poultry, seafood, eggs, legumes such as lentils and beans. Low fat dairy, especially yogurt. As many vegetables as you can eat - but NOT starchy ones, and no fried or in rich sauces. A little fresh fruit. A lot of water.

It does help with depression.
Thanks for this!

How we are feeling can affect what we eat and what we eat can affect how we feel. That is not what eating disorders are about. Depression makes us feel like we don't want to do or eat much, etc. but it is known one can feel better if one does engage in activity and eats properly.

I couldn't say, I mean if you only ate a little bit today, I doubt that qualifies as an eating disorder there is lots of days I don't even eat that much and I have no eating disorder. However I don't see how starving ones-self would relieve depression and anxiety....if anything its more likely to add to it since malnutrition can make you more irritable, lethargic essentially gives your brain even less to work with than the depression robs it of.....if that makes sense.

I mean you may want to talk to a therapist and get help with that if you are actually becoming convinced starving yourself will relieve anxiety and depression and are planning to essentially stop eating....since that would be very dangerous for your health. Not sure if that is technically an eating disorder or not though.

I did that for a while, don't think it was a disorder in my case, but hunger made me sleep a lot of my days away.

These days I eat a snack when I'm anxious or depressed.

I would suggest googling "emotional anorexia" to see if you think that applies to you. If so, I think there's a 12 step group where you can get help.

Sometimes when people are depressed they lose their appetite or desire to eat. You could check with your doctor if you're concerned but I'd think that unless you're doing starving every day and losing a lot of weight it's not a big deal. Exercise is recommended for relieving anxiety so I doubt that's a problem at all

Hi there. Well, I'm no Dr or qualified person but believe me, if you were suffering from any disorder you wouldn't want it shouted from the roof tops. People with ED's keep it quiet, lest someone should stumble upon them and try and ''fatten them up''. Basically we are all so very different, you can't even tell by what a person looks like as to whether they eat little or a lot ~ just the way the cookie crumbles I suppose!! HUGS. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Why low fat? We need fat.

If fasting or restricting food really does relieve depression and anxiety It could be your dietary habits are somehow causing you stress.

1. You could have a food sensitivity. If you react to something common like corn, then fasting or eating very little reduces your exposure and thus your reactions.
2. You could have hyperinsulinism. Eating raises your blood sugar, insulin brinca It too far down, and to rqise It again your body releases adrenaline which makes anxiety and eventually depression.
3. You could be producing endorphins by fasting. If you feel a trancy calm, thats endorphons. Its not a good thing to do.

Are you on meds that cause loss of appetite?

I have been overweight my entire life. Comfort food to cure any bad feeling. I have never been one to lose my appetite.

Do you feel it is disordered? You're the best judge of that. Are you controlling what you eat and how hard you work out because other things in your life are out of your control?

Good luck, hope you find answers soon.

I don't think you're reading clearly. "Moderate fat" and "low fat dairy" are healthy suggestions. Low-fat dairy lessens saturated fat intake. Best to seek fat from healthier sources.
