Okay so my passion is psychology, it is what i live for. Almost every word i say is in some way connected to that field. BUT (and always there is a "but") right now i'm not in control, anorexia is. My managers at work (who also happen to be good friends to me) today noticed that i hardly eat anymore, and also another worried friend clued them in on the weight i've lost in the last month or so. They sat down and talked to me, they really tried to help but as i'm sure you all know...their words can only comfort, not cure. At one point one of them said "So how the heck do you think you're going to be a psychologist and help other people, if you can't even help yourself? impossible."

My question is...what are your views? is it really "impossible" for me to pursue this passion simply because i am fighting my own battles as well?

We all need goals and objectives ..and purpose to bring meaning to life. I think your wishing to be a psychologist or such is a worthy one.

Shall I give you your "BUT?" That field is tough enough without going into it with heavy issues.

What strength you will be able to share with other struggling souls, once you have beaten this malady that besets you! If you try to accomplish this without taking care of yourself first, not only will it be terribly overwhelming stressful in the process, but you will feel like a hypocrite the whole time your working with others to help them improve, imo.

Keep your goal, but fill in the road to that goal with objectives which are in your own best self interest, that being to overcome the reasons you are anorexic.

Good wishes.

I would have given my eye teeth and then some to have found a therapist with ANY experience with an eating disorder - so I say "YOU GO GIRL".... we need more people like you to help people with eating disorders.... You will get your's under control! And then think of the wonderful help you will be to others with similar problems...
More and more women in their 40, 50, 60 are suffering from some form of eating disorder.... to have as a resource someone that truly understands is invaluable..

So please take care of yourself!!!

Sincerely,
freewill

I agree. You are probably going to feel incredibly overwhelmed and hypocritical if you dont overcome this issue in your life first. But that is a great goal and many of us desperately wish we had T's who understood what we go through.

I really think you should make sure you are taken care of first though. Helping others is very tough especially for those of us overwhelmed by our own problems.

Hang in there though

((((((hugs)))))

You can do this
