I finally decided to find out what is wrong with me. Of course, my first place for information was google.
I have a major problem with food. Or rather food has a major problem. It is all toxic.
Here is a short list of the things I do not eat or avoid at all costs.
Meat, dairy, bread, white rice, non organic produce, GMO foods, cereal, candy, anything with preservatives or any dyes, anything with soy in it, soda, high fructose corn syrup.
I read labels scrupulously, searching for any sign that it may be toxic. I try to avoid buying most things that come in bags or boxes at the store. I prefer to eat raw vegetables and fruits to cooked ones. I do not use a microwave, even to boil water.
You can say I'm a little obsessed with food. It has nothing to do with the outside of my body. I don't even own a scale. It's the inside. The cellular level and all the toxins in everyday food.
I don't control my life. Food does and it can be really tiresome. If I didn't have to eat to survive, I wouldn't. I hate it. If someone gave me a pill and said it is 100 percent healthy for you and will supply your body with everything it needs, I would take it and never eat again. It's frustrating for me, my husband, and my children.
I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong thread. I just don't know if I even have an eating disorder. It doesn't seem so by all standard definitions. But I personally feel that food is ruining my life.

hi veggnlaydee
it certainly does sound like it is a problem. perhaps you should go talk to someone who specializes in eating disorders, just because they know about food issues. welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

I can understand your frustrations with food. It takes me forever to shop reading all the labels. There are times when like you if there was a way to get what I need to live without eating it would be nice...but I can't swollow pills either. I do like the flavor of foods...it's just don't like the contents unless I make everything from scratch & I don't have the energy for that either...so often it's just easier to NOT eat

I would encourage you to look up information on orthorexia. Trying to stay healthy is one thing but if you feel like it's ruining your life then yes it's definitely a problem.

If you feel like it is a problem, then I would explore it more. Wanting to eat healthy can become too obsessive.
