My personal initial response to your question is - no; this is really not an eating disorder.

I have had a look for organisations that may be able to assist you with IBS in Canada:

CANADIAN DIGESTIVE HEALTH

Disorders - Canadian Digestive Health Foundation

[Footnote: I do see they use the word disorder; but it is not used in reference to "eating disorder" at all - this is how I interpret this; I hope this helps]

i do not believe it is an eating disorder. it is a medical issue focusing on the bowel. i know you can develop bowel issues from eating disorders though. my sister died because of it having multiple surgeries removing damaged parts of her bowels till they stopped functioning. if you want assistance or are concerned the best place to go is to see a medical professional.

IBS is not an eating disorder. It is kind of like an irritation in the lining of your bowels somewhere along the line. I have been diagnosed with IBS and treatment is usually focusing on eliminating your food triggers and some medications actually make it worse too.

The short answer is, as everyone else has said, no. It's more a physical disorder that causes irritation in the bowels.

However, I have spoken with people who developed an eating disorder in relation to IBS. But receiving proper treatment helped them recover from the eating disorder. Thus, it was not an eating disorder in the sense that most here experience(d) an eating disorder. The obsession with food, rather, grew from a fear of the symptoms of IBS. IBS itself is not an eating disorder, but many people with eating disorders may have IBS and some people with IBS may grow obsessed with what they do, don't, can, or cannot eat and thus may experience symptoms of an eating disorder. That, is of course, the long answer.

I do believe that PC has a board for physical health problems if you scroll a bit further down.
