has anyone heard of intuitive eating? is it really possible?... seems like a foreign language... kind of like feelings... the dietician i am working with wants me to work on it... she said it would take time because i am so use to being under 800 calories a day... and have lost touch with what hunger feels like... lyn

Theoretically it's possible, it seems like the most natural way to eat. However, from childhood on I've never experienced that. Food is a tool for me, I eat when i'm lonely or sad, and I binge and purge when I'm stressed or angry.

I think when I learn how to deal with life in different, less harmful ways and can eat intuitively, my life will be so much better.

I'm glad you're going to a dietician - just like when you start to learn a new language, remember that with time you will master intuitive eating. And you'll have a rare and valuable skill!
Thanks for this!

Hi lyn,

intuitive eating .. LOL ......

My intuition tells me to have a whole pumpkin pie if Im in the store and I see one.

Really , I can now eat when I'm experiencing real hunger . I now have a hunger signal thats genuine.

before I did not. I felt hungry ALL the time .

My life is on my schedual so I can follow my inner hunger . I have no exact set time I eat everyday. It used to be as soon as I entered the door it was straight for the fridge . Not any more . Amazing !

I do have guidelines I follow for my meals. I have worked with portions enough to be able to eye ball some and measure others.

My emotions interfear with my real hunger .

I try to never eat when I'm emotional , especially angry. The feelings have to be adressed before dinner time or any meal time.

I have two main meals a day . breackfast and dinner . I have a small snack mid afternoon if Im hungry . And in the evening a snack if Im hungry. its always healthy no junk food. works for me.

maybe this is what is called ituitive eating . don't know.

Bingo! Ncal ,

I eat when Im feeling hurt as well. its a soother period . It never was about being hungry . And it was and still is about the addictive nature of the way food tastses for me. There is a dissocitive nature to it as well.
