Good going trying new things!
I used to not like very many vegetables and for me now it depends on how they are prepared makes all the difference in the world. It took some experimenting to find different ways that I like in particular. Perhaps this might make a difference, so many cooking styles, and flavors with seasonings, dressings, sauces, or even dips. I started out with buying a ton of seasonings or if you know someone who has some: smell and taste them, find what you like, then find recipes online using them. I would go to restaurants and get samples of all their dressings for a small fee to try them to see what I liked before committing to large bottles or even get the grocery store/convenience store packets at their salad bars. If it is a texture issue, the difference between raw, vs steamed, vs boiled, vs baked vs even sauteed can make a huge difference. This is probably more than you wanted to know; I'm so sorry. I get excited about cooking now. I wish you well in finding more things that you enjoy!

I love my fruits and vegetables but I am lazy to eat them. I do try and make vegies with ever dinner but sometimes it will just end up being pasta and a meat with a tomato based sauce. I always have salad stuff in the fridge but get too lazy to make a salad for lunch.
I couldn't imagine not eating pasta or rice but this is going to become a reality for me as I am going on a program that is requiring me to give up carbs. I am glad that you enjoy the jacket potatoes Buttercup. Perhaps try them with a bit of sour cream or cottage cheese instead of regular cheese. That will cut even more calories off.

I am also lazy when it comes to the fruit and veggies. I think you have to find what you really like-bananas are easy, or cut up an apple and put it in oatmeal, raisins too, and nuts.
I make a lot of crock pot meals and throw in veggies with the chicken or meat, that way when you come home from work, something is already prepared. I just got the betty crocker Big Book Slow cooker cook book-cheap on Amazon and there are lot of great simple recipies. Make sure you get some salad dressings for your salads that you like, that makes it easier to eat the salad. Get some fresh cheese and nuts to put on the salad. Plan all your meals for the week and only shop for that stuff, that way you won't be tempted to go for the old standbys. It's not as hard as you think to transition to that, if you don't buy it, you won't eat it. I wish you luck on your goals. |

Forgot that I had written this post.
Since this I have actually lost my appetite,I am sure it is since quitting smoking though, I no longer binge on crap like I did before, I have lost 41b in weight. I still eat my jacket potatoes though when I feel like eating though. Sabrina I am just way too fussy and don't like sour cream or cottage cheese so there is no chance of me trying these things. |

Potatoes are almost a "perfect" food, they only lack Vitamin A, which one can get from a little butter/dairy. That's why the Irish were able to do so well on them and increase their population so hugely (before the Famine).

I am an EXTREMELY picky eater. I have had a fear as a young child about eating over other peoples' houses.
I LOVE all fruits. My love of veggies was limited to salad (only specific types, and leaf size), and green beans. A trick that I learned to help me acquire a taste for veggies was to juice. Juicing isn't just good for you it retrains your palate. Hide kale, cucumbers, spinach and leafy romaine in a yummy green juice with citrus, which covers all those greens. Greens which when juiced, have very little flavor. After a short stint of drinking juiced veggies, I found myself adding extra carrots to my salad, cutting up small pieces of cauliflower to use instead of croutons for their crunch. Believe me, I was as surprised as you would be. I also hide greens in my food when I can. Adding peas to pasta, or Mac and cheese. Sautéed fresh snap peas, and fresh green beans in garlic and olive oil, a little seasoning, and some sesame seeds, over rice. YUM! Would I have ever thought for a minute that i would enjoy THAT? No way! Give juicing a try. 3 days. Add a small glass with your meals, or carry a bottle with you during the day (that's what I did). My fear of veggies, while still there, is much less than it used to be. Now I know that I like enough options, and know how to cook them to my specific desire. It's really a great accomplishment for me! |
