It starts at the end of the month. I've gained a LOT of weight since starting meds, they have since reduced my meds (now on 10 mgs. from my high of 20 mgs., soon to be 7 1/2). I'm tired of being so large, and really need to get a handle on it. Before when I was crazy I was walking a lot, 3-5 miles a day and eating barely a thing. I'm a heavier set person, so even then I was a size 14, now a 20.

But I bought a book on healthy eating by a Princeton Professor, and I'm going to start this class, and I really hope I can learn how to get to a normal for me size and stay that way for years to come. It would be a dream to see my high school weight again, but I'm going to give myself a solid effort to get into somewhat reasonable shape.

The class only meets once a week, there is another class offered so I could technically go twice a week but I figured I should start with 1 day a week since I really don't know what I'd be getting into.

Anyone have thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks.

Zumba can be a lot of fun. It takes a lot of effort when you first start - you will find that you are using muscles that you didn't even know you had :P. But because of the nature of it after a while you don't even really notice that you are exercising. It is just a lot of fun.

Starting with 1 class is probably good. See how you go and increase it as you can.

Good luck!

It doesn't feel as much like exercise; it makes it more fun to do. I hope you will find it that way too. One day a week is a good way to start to get used to it and give yourself some recovery time in between sessions. If the class uses weights and you have not exercised in awhile, you may just want to use the motions without the weights and work into using them after a bit until you get used to it. Ask about using the weights/not, but as Mazing mentions, you will already be using muscles you didn't realize you have and is a workout in and of itself. If you do use the weights, go for less resistance with lighter ones in the beginning to be safe to not over do it.

Have fun with with it and best wishes with your goals!!!!

That sounds like fun, how do you hook up with a class like that? I also would like to add that whenever i hear about someone trying to do diets to look like they did as a teenager, if you're over about 40 you have to maybe allow for some of the changes your body went through may be permanent, like childbirth, or just plain bad diet, that you are not in the same body of a teenagers body so i would just like to add even if you don't look like a teenager, you may get to look more bodacious which may even look better for the new size, if your exercising or whatever you are doing to do to get to your imagined weight. it would be great if you can get to look like your old teenager state, but i'm saying try your best, but you may even want to keep some of the weight as men find it sexy and i've even heard it from men, wish you luck avlady

Avlady, I would keep an eye out in your local newspaper or chat with your local gym. They often have classes advertised or would know of them if you are interested in signing up.
