Hi, how much exercise do you do and what kind? Just want to see how others stay in shape after this age. I am 41 and have really felt my metabolism slow down and finding it hard to keep the weight off. I am only 10 pounds overweight but it is really uncomfortable as I am used to being really fit but had a few set backs that kept me from workouts. I am ready to get back into it. Just wanted to see if anyone else is out there like me and what your routine is. Thanks

Counting calories first and foremost. Even if a person can't exercise, they can count calories. Whatever your target weight is, add a zero to the end of it and don't exceed that number of calories each day. Do allow yourself one day of the week that you kind of eat what you want, but don't go too overboard with it.
I have arthritis in my spine, shoulders, hips, etc. and it got too painful for me to engage in my favorite forms of exercise (hiking, backpacking, etc.), but I was still able to lose weight by simply following the above formula. I've dropped 100 lbs. and only have 65 more to go to achieve my target weight - Which I'm hoping will help alleviate enough pain that I can hit those hiking trails again. A couple of months ago, my doctor recommended I try a recumbent bike to see if I could do that without being in excruciating pain and it works like a charm. I do a moderately intense 30 minute ride four days a week and my energy (physical & emotional) has definitely improved in just that short amount of time. Not to mention it's sped up the weight loss too. ![]() ps. I'm 53 years of age ... |
