I actually walked yesterday. It is awful outside as the temperature has dropped significantly but at least we did not get the snow they predicated.

Goals: bundled up for walking and weights.

PS We are getting the snow now (11:00), first snowfall of the year, wow, fall went by quickly.

I got in walking 2x yesterday but did not do the weights as I brought in firewood instead, given our first snow, so natural weights. Trying to put off using the heat as long as possible, so costly, and snow in November, yikes. It is a sign it is going to be a long winter.

Goal today: since sore, walking only, and will do weights tomorrow.

I am now on week 6 of the C25k-program - and DAYOUM, is it working! I have never felt so motivated to excercise before. I haven't weighed myself in a long time but I can feel that I am getting stronger, when I started I could barely run a few minutes without having to walk for a while, now I can run 20-30 minutes and barely break out a sweat. And feel great afterwards. Even signed up for a 5K run in just one and a half weeks! I've also started fencing, it's very fun and actually very good excercise. All in all, I'm doing great and feeling great - even though the weight loss probably has not been very big in just a few weeks.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for sharing, that's awesome Norwegianwoman!! Congrats on your progress! I will be wishing you well as you continue training and for the 5K itself coming soon. Good luck and keep up the great progress, you can do it.

I have a tai chi class tonight and am looking forward to it. Walked during my lunch at break the last couple of days and when I get home for more exercise. It is working out well doing this so far, hoping I can keep it up.

Goal tonight: tai chi

Goal tomorrow: walking and weights

I hit my goal of walking every day this week during breaks. Planning on continuing this, and hoping the weather will cooperate. It has not only been good for my body but mind as well to take a mental break; I always feel better when I come back, not as stressed.

Today did Zumba but still need to walk. I had to pack away the weights as company is coming this week and they take up the floor space in their bedroom. I managed to get it in twice this week though, which was inline with the goal. Perhaps a week away from them won't be as bad as I think it will be, or hope rather.

Goal rest of today: walking

I had a doc appt yesterday, unavoidable forced weigh-in. My weight is maintaining, not coming down and not going up either, which is good on one hand and frustrating though on the other. Then I get an email from a friend last night coincidentally about some all natural diet aide created for diabetics that a family member is using that she has lost weight with that she is seeing results with too, wanted to let me know about it if I was interested. So tempting but know this is not a not good idea, if only. Argghhh.

I will go back to the drawing board reevaluate food choices and what can do about exercise plan. I suspect it is food that is the issue. I am hoping it is not this new medication because I increased my exercise and food had not changed (and have not been making bad choices lately, have been on track), should have been losing.

Goal today: food makeover plan, walking, weights

Really frustrated yesterday and today; have gone back through what have been doing foodwise and will probably have to start keeping a journal again to find the culprits or ways to lean up. I have not done this in ages and hate it, but necessary evil at this point. Perhaps will go think on it some more over a donut and hot chocolate, Ha! just kidding, having an egg, half a whole graih muffin and fruit this morning, with plain tea; not that it is making any difference. Perhaps should go for the donut.

Goal today: walking and firewood

So the changes made this week food-wise were slight but the weigh-in I had at the doctor's ofc yestrday, visit for a sinus infection and cough, have lost 2.9 lbs this week. So there was some tweeking to be made or it is because of the illness (and not eating as much) not sure which, , but will take it.

Blood pressure (BP) was back up but that is because of the cold medicines that the doc wants me to change to get it back down again. Frustrated because the cold medicine for lower BP didn't do a thing; however if I take the regular stuff, it helps but raises the BP. This other stuff has warnings on it too for BP but she says it will be less that what I was taking. Damned if do and don't. We'll see.

A little fatigued at the moment but can still walk to that may be the routine for a bit. Goal today: walking

Been without power for a week with this serious storm that hit. The roads are terrible to walk or bike on them with the ice. I am taking up a new activity. I have gone snow shoeing with the dogs in the fields. The hills to get to and from them are killer though and oh, is it a workout. Will have to look up how many calories that is. The dogs are funny though as they don't forge their own paths but they follow my tracks, laziness or wisdom, a little of both?!

"According to two independent studies conducted by Ball State University and the University of Vermont, snowshoers can burn between 420-1000 calories per hour." Liking this. And here I thought with the winter months I might be gaining more weight, perhaps there is hope.

Today is actually a day of rest. Still sore from yesterday, and trying to get over this cold, but I do have wood to bring in; so will call that "weights" for today.

So I hate this time of year, officially. Hate is a strong word but fitting. It has come sooner than expected. The temps are in the single digits and below, which usually does not happen until January or February but is here now. That even bundled up, it goes straight to your bones and hard to warm up from. Then the dogs cannot be out long in this even protected too. This weekend I will have to get out the treadmill and the weights now that company is gone. I just really miss being able to be outside.

Goal today: short snow shoe trip and zumba

The roads have cleared a bit so am going to try to take the bike out today. It is just supposed to mist/drizzle a bit but should but clear otherwise for traveling if i don't cough up a lung in the process; it will still be worth it. A nice treat to get out for all of us.

Goal today: bicycling

It has been nice this week as the temps have been in the 40's (I never thought I would say these were "nice" temps, oh my), so the snow is spotty in places but mostly gone except in the fields. Walks have been enjoyable and have been able to bike a couple of times too again, which is just heavenly. It does look like it is time to get new tires though, was slipping a bit, treads are pretty worn so may hold off until can get them. Won't be until next weekend though.

I tried taking the new addition off leash and that did not go so well again. It works for a bit, then she gets distracted by something and forgets I exist, ignoring the commands. We have more work to do. This would make walks even more enjoyable when we get to this point for down in the fields for both of us if she only knew.

I slipped this last week. Got my meals at work. I need to take my break and lunches this week for fewer calories.

Goal today: couple of walks
Goal this week: plan meals better, shopping trip today for the week.

I was super good this week, taking all my lunches and breakfast meals to work so I got fewer calories and wholesome foods. I did treat myself to eat out once this week for Christmas evening meal; it was nice not having to cook.

Weather was good this week in that it was warmer and nice to get outside, biked and walked almost every day, except on that got home too late, exhausted. I have to set the weights back up now that there will not be any company for some time. This will help tremendously.

Goal today: set up weights, do them, walking

Lilodian4ever, Welcome! So nice to see you. Please use the thread for your health and fitness goals as it helps. It is here as needed. Good luck with your goals.

My goals are currently on hold or rather have changed to more health minded than fitness. These last couple of weeks have been a struggle, upper respiratory infection that won't leave, and finally got into the doc yesterday as my cold has moved into my chest to something more sinister. He did a chest x-ray and bronchial wash, and it turns out I have pneumonia. Now I know why it has been such a struggle to breathe and so fatigued, especially this week. Thankfully it is bacterial and have been started on antibiotic, and other meds to help with the discomfort. He said to give it at least a week before doing any excercise other than walking as tolerated, rest is going to be key though.

What a way to bring in the New Year! Can only get better from here, right? Off today, thankfully so didn't have to call in, can lay low, but do still need to walk with the dogs. Later will figure out New Years Resolutions for fitness. doc liked plan was on, just wants me to stick to it; has been impressed with results even with the plateaus and bumps here in there. Will look into some other fitness classes and perhaps now that working can afford to find some place to swim again once fully healed; nothing like spreading the germs, germie cesspool otherwise

Here's to healthy renewals in 2015. Good luck with everyone's goals! Cheers !

So the pneumonia is better now; it is only in 1 lobe and part to of another as opposed to a full three and part of a fourth like in the beginning. Definitely feel better that I am able to start exercising some again. I am still on an inhaler and steroid to help me breath but things are easier now.

I have started walking the last couple of days to ease into it. I have company coming this week, so I will get the weights out after they go and should give me more time to ease into things. I feel so out of shape but have managed not only not to gain anything but have lost during this illness, have not been eating is the likely cause. Hopefully it will not all come back as I start to feel better and get my appetite back. Sickness: natural appetite suppressant; what a way to do it though.

Goal today: Walk further

Hope your News Years resolutions are going well as are you fitness, health and wellness goals for 2015. Keep it up!

Fresia- it sounds like you are well on your way to developing some healthy habits.
How are you feeling other than the headaches - I hear they can be pretty painful. Good for you for getting up and at em!

When is the interview? You're to knock them dead
I'm sure! Good luck and keep up the great work!

Ps- what kind of dogs do you have??

Thank you for the encouraging words and welcome to the thread!

I got the job, and fit in the interview clothes which was the first goal. It has since been revised to some other getting healthier goals since then, including losing more weight and building more muscle. Unfortunately with having been sick lately with pneumonia, just getting well has been the priority, but picking things back up again and slowly easing into a routine again.

As for the PS., I have 3 dogs: a Blackmouth Cur, a Labrador Retriever/ Australian Shepherd mix, and a Viszla/Boxer mix.

I hope this finds everyone doing well with their goals for this New Year. Best wishes and know that you can do it.!

The last round of company is gone so am going to get out the weights. I am struggling to get past this plateaued weight, have not been losing any with the activity and watching what I eat but at least have not been gaining either. It is time to step things up.

The weather is making it hard to be outside: negative temps, and unclear or very icy roads are just miserable to be out in. The dogs and I are out for short periods but it is all either of us can stand. I can't snow shoe anymore as the snow is too tall to get into. We have had 75" now, with more coming today. Starting to go a little stir crazy.

Time to dust off the cardio DVDs and the weights.

Goal today: walking as long as can before toes, nose and fingers freeze, and then weights

For those that are having to shovel, depending on your height and weight, it averages to about 288 calories per hour more or less. I know I am getting a workout though as I am so sore the days afterward. We are due for more this weekend, just SO looking forward to it, can't you tell.

While the weather is clear, sunny for a change, AND is actually in the double digits, going to spend some time outside today.

I hope all is going well with your New Years fitness and health goals. Keep it up.

Goal today: walking and trying to go further/longer

I wish I could say we have been snowless but two more days this week we got more white s***. At least it wasn't all week, perhaps March will come in AND out like a lamb to make up for February.

The weather is really getting to me. These below zero temps, I just want to stay in and stay warm, feeling unmotivated and mopey, the cold zaps all my energy. Someone was saying how invigorating it was for them being out in the cold. I wonder how I could change into that perspective instead of feeling like a cross being the Pillsbury doughboy, all bundled up, and a popsicle.

At least the days are getting longer and there is more sun, which is super nice. I have to find a way to get motivated as I can feel the weight coming back on in the way my clothes are fitting due to my sloth-like activity. Perhaps instead of positive motivation, use fear instead of regressing to get motivated. * Sighs * Just need to find something that works. What do you use for motivation?

Goal today: weights and walking

Good luck with your goals!

So I missed out out on doing any exercise yesterday as had too many appointments and errands after work, excuse I know but was exhausted. However, have been really good this week about taking all my meals to work for a change and planning meals all this week so far, and no take out either.

I am excited because it is supposed to be warmer today; I never thought I would be excited about at freezing temp but this is a warm front considering the last several weeks we have been below 0 most days. I have no appointments today so it will be good to get outside.

Goal today: hitting the roads on the bike.

Well the roads seemed clear but had no idea there was so much black ice still. Just some bruises to show for it. Too soon. Will have to stick with walking in select areas. Arghhh. Winter, winter go away away, come again, well, .... next winter. Time for it to be over.

Goal today: walking; ibuprofen, and more ice on bumps and bruises.

The roads are finally clear and made a new goal to walk daily no matter what. We are all pretty out of shape at this point so each week to increase the distance to ease into it and see how it goes. So badly out of shape, winded by the end. I have to set the weights back up but given schedule this week, that may not happen until the weekend; however, will try to get them going this week, sooner rather than later. Someone was saying swimsuit season is coming and time to get into shape, ha, it may just stay in the drawer, closed season. Just need to get healthier period.

Goal until then of the week: walking, weights at least once, & to keep taking planned meals to work.
