I will make my main new year's resolution for my fitness after I meet with the doc next week to set my new goal. The one I can make now is to maintain what have already done and keep going meanwhile.

Unfortunately today's goal will be about digging out from the blizzard: 4 feet of snow so far and still coming. I don't know that I will get to any other exercises today. As I sip my tea and look out, it is a really pretty winter wonderland, until I remember the shoveling of it and notice closer how the wind is whipping the snow and trees around. It sure makes exercising look good. I will have to look up how many calories are burned with shoveling. My luck it will be one per hour. LOL. Just checked, half hour is about 211 cal, 422 per hour. So I guess I am getting some exercise in today.

Good luck with your goals this year! Remember one step at a time and even the smallest steps make a world of difference: a few minutes here or there with exercise, or a simple change with food to a lower calorie or healthier option, or a change in routine such as taking the stairs instead of an elevator. You can do whatever you set your sights on!

Goal today: treadmill as it's -20 outside, brrrr, and had planned to weights but lo and behold I am actually sore from shoveling yesterday; AND there is still more to do so the weights may have to wait.

Ok, so I did not make my goal yesterday. I was too tired and too sore. I probably could use another day of rest but I have more shoveling to do so that will be extent of my physical goals today, to get the rest dug out. At least calories will still be burned. It will be curious to see with the weigh-in tomorrow what happens with the numbers as that has been most of my exercise this week, while still doing arm curls to my mouth.

Fresia, I'm pretty sure when they were calculating calories burned during snow shoveling, they were not thinking of 4 feet of snow! I'm sure you're burning a lot more calories! Stay safe while you're outside in this miserable weather!

Good luck with your weigh in!

I haven't really set a New Year's resolution. I haven't decided if I want to keep up my race-a-month goal. There is a race on the 18th... I think I'll wait and watch the weather... And then, if it's just too cold, so be it, and then my goal will be to not beat up on myself for "wimping out." Good news, though, I finally made it to the gym. Between finals, traveling, and the holidays, I didn't get much of a chance to work out. I decided to start my C25K program over again (though, with more running this time around) to ease myself back into it. But I'm definitely a bit sore from my long break.

Good luck to everyone with their New Year's resolutions!

The weather this time year plays havoc with all sorts of plans. I can see playing it by ear whether or not to participate, let alone with some kinds of training as safety can be an issue especially with slick roads. Wishing you all the best with whatever you decide to do R.S. You can do it!

Weigh-in: 6.1 lbs less this week; yeah! to shoveling, never thought I would say that. At least it has its benefits, but it sure takes its toll though and wipes me out in the process; it takes a day or two to recover from it afterward. I am wiped out again today and not sure I will get to anything else but just may take the day to rest like before.

Goal: recoup, anti-inflammatory, and hot shower/bath.
Goal tomorrow: treadmill

Because I sat around most of yesterday studying, I also ate out of boredom to stay awake though I would prefer to call it brain food. I felt like a balloon at the end of the day and even today feel sluggish. Today I will try to eat lighter to help balance it and need to definitely hit the goal today.

Goal: treadmill

Watch out for boredom eating. Wishing you well in achieving your goals! You can do it!

Tehehe -- brain food! Definitely been there, done that. Though, I tend to have more trouble with eating while watching TV, even if I'm not hungry. I try to keep celery and fresh fruit in the house for that reason....you can't feel guilty eating celery, right?

Goal today: Gym in the evening. Also, drink more water -- I've been slacking on that front.

Congrats on your continued success, Fresia!

Good luck to everyone on their goals!

With an emergency appointment with Dad, I had to cancel my physical with my doc and they are booking physicals into March now. Just great. So I calculated my BMI and I have some serious work to do as I am embarrassed to say I am way out of range even with the weight already lost, which is really unhealthy and I want to feel better. I am tired of my knees and back hurting.

Instead of setting a goal of losing so much I am going to set smaller goals and the first one is going to be 9 kg/20lbs. This way there are stages or benchmarks to make.

Goals this week: Step-up weight training to 2x a week; and cut out a carb snack daily, replace with vegetables.

Goals today: Zumba and bringing in firewood, which is always a workout

Made goal today of doing the treadmill. It is really nice having it here in the house. The roads were covered in ice today; there is no way could get out to do anything otherwise.

Goal tomorrow: weights

Goal today is still weights. I have to get them out as I had to put them away due to company; they take up the the entire guest room. I think that could possibly be a workout in an of itself. It will be good to have them out again, no excuses then.

Hope all is going well with your fitness and health goals for the New Year!

Didn't make it to the gym on Wednesday... Well, made it, but when we got there, the fire alarm was going off. I think it was a water main break -- been having some trouble with that around town lately due to the cold. So we went Thursday and yesterday.

Classes and my new internship both start this week, so my goal will be trying to figure out a new schedule to accommodate everything (while keeping my anxiety in check).

Keep going, everyone! We're doing great!

I've been working out again solid for the last week and I feel great! When I stop to think, it really is ridiculous to get away from exercising (short of being shut down with the flu or an injury). The feeling of empowerment and the natural high which hits me after a few days in, really speaks to the importance of this natural, uplifting "drug". Wish me the best, my goal is to get back into the good habit of sustaining it.

It is amazing when take the time off how hard is to get back going again. However once those endorphins kick in, you do wonder why you stopped, unless of course sickness or injury, but even then once recovered, getting going is tough. I is important to listen to our bodies and make sure we are well.

Good job KCS on getting a good solid time in this week with your workouts. Great work. Keep it up!

RS that bites to get there and have that happen. So great you went back though the other days. Impressive. Good luck figuring out a new schedule and new routine. Sometimes it just takes some time and patience.

I only made it as far as getting the weights out yesterday as we got hit with more snow and shoveling took precedence. Made up for it today though, so lovely and double digits. Took advantage of it and got the bike out as the did really good job of clearing the roads. So love the bike and helped with the stress of starting classes back today. Fun, fun.

Best wishes on your goals. You can do it!

PS, was supposed to weigh in today and just remembered, will check for tomorrow.darn it.

Weigh-in: 3 kg / 6 lbs less ( 14 more lbs to reach this first benchmark);

which I am surprised as I felt like a slug this week. The weights and new muscle must really be making a difference for burning more calories even at rest. AND so I am really liking the shoveling now as it is a productive very calorie burning activity now. Not that am I wishing for more white crap however. I am so loving these double digits and the sun is out today, just heavenly. Going to take advantage of it.

Goals today: bike and take the dogs for walk

Cruddy weather day, welcome to winter. I am going to be rodent and get on my wheel today as much time with appointments for anything else but can squeek this in.

Hope your weather is better and is going well with your goals. You can do it!

Awesome weather out today, sunny in the double digits, almost like spring. Definitely will be a biking kind of day. The dogs will love it too being able to run without slipping and sliding, or plowing through the snow with these clear roads.

How is the weather where y'all are; are you able to get out despite it being winter, if it is winter where you are?

Snow snow snow. We've been getting so much of this year (it feels like, anyways). I hate going to the gym because I don't like driving in these conditions (the conditions being snow + stupid people... I can handle one or the other, but both, that's just asking for trouble). Managed to make it to the gym twice this past week, though.

I ended up not doing the road race today. Took my kitty to the vet for his long overdue yearly checkup. Vet's report: "Healthy cat."

Goal for this week: go to the gym three times

Congrats on your continued success, Fresia!!

I am sorry to hear about the race, but better to be safe. Have to be careful on these roads. Better luck next time with the weather. Hope all is going well at the gym RS.

The computer crashed yesterday. I spent most the day try to fix it and the rest at the store getting help to fix the rest. I was mentally exhausted, then with the storm moving in, my nerves were frayed when I got home driving then only to find the power out, and had to get the generator hooked up. Fortunately it is back on this morning. So I did not meet my goal yesterday.

Same goal: treadmill today and not looking forward to the weigh-in tomorrow as have hardly done anything this week.

Weigh-in: Lose some, gain some.
Not quite how the saying goes but this week is fitting. All that I loss last week, I gained back this week and I am almost back to my starting point. I knew I had done a little but not that little. I have get my butt in gear this week. No excuses.

Goal today: weights

So shoveling won out over weights yesterday thanks to the change in the weather. However, I did bring myself to get on the treadmill last night and it was not the easiest decision I have made lately as the bed was so calling my name.

Goal today: weights

Trying to get back on track here with my goals. The nice thing is can just pick right back up at any time.
I still hope things are going really well with your goals. Good Luck!

Struggling a bit myself... The whole reason I want to go to the gym to run is the same reason I can't go to the gym to run. It's very frustrating. Not a lot of snow, so just enough to make the road a little slippery but not enough to actually make people slow down or stop tailgating...

It's not supposed to snow tonight, so I will go to the gym.

If I go every other day for the rest of this week, I can still make my goal of going to the gym 3 times this week.

I really wish I had a more concrete, long term goal, but right now, I don't. I'm feeling a little lost and it's not helping my motivation one bit. All I have right now is to exercise to improve my mental health, but that doesn't really translate into small, reward-able goals to help me reach one big goal...
Thanks for this!

Lately all I can focus on anyway as doing something for the smaller goal in an of itself, and cannot have something loftier in mind; otherwise when I think of my larger goal, it starts to feel overwhelming and I get nothing done paralyzed with fear that it is not possible. So just focusing on the moment and the immediate goals anyway is all that is needed. Always advantages and disadvantages to having a larger goal.

I opted for the treadmill yesterday instead of the weights. For some reason, perhaps the soreness, did not feel up to them again yesterday. Today just stiffness, so I will feel better once I do them. It is just lately everything feels like such a chore. Lack of sleep has something to do with as Dad has had some bad nights and some stressful days; hardly anything seems to go right. Even more reason why I should exercise.

Goal today again: weights.

Food goal: I have been on a gummy bear and dots kick lately. I have no idea why but do not need the sugar. This is my reminder to pick up some more fruit at the store to nibble on instead while studying.

Omg, I FINALLY made it to the gym. It was such a push to finally get me out the door. I got over the hump of going to the gym by myself for the first time in months, so the next time is going to be easier. Going to bring my gym bag with me to campus and maybe hit the gym on the way home tonight.

I'm still feeling really lost on goals and having something specific to work for. I think that was another reason why I was having trouble with getting to the gym... Before, when I was doing my running program, I had a sense of accomplishment when I got to check off each workout. Now, even though I started the program over, there's no real sense of accomplishment for me.. I've already done it. Having the goal of just going to the gym isn't enough for me right now. I'm going to have to think of something...

I hope things start to go better for you soon! Sorry your dad's been having a rough time. I hope you can find some energy, get some sleep, all those good things so you start to feel better.
Thanks for this!
