...if I need to get diagnosed? My last one was for unipolar depression in 2006 and my MH professionals agreed that was no longer accurate. At the same time, they admit that my condition is so vague and confusing (to them) that I "need to see someone who specializes in that kind of thing" in order to progress on my treatment (they do not feel qualified to do the diagnosis).

Is there something in the psych profession that can turn a bunch of symptoms into a more formal diagnosis and treatment plan, that can use something like interviews and methodologies to turn a bunch of disparate, conflicting symptoms into something I can focus on? Find out which disorder I "really have" in order to get effective treatment instead of just crisis management?

Also I cannot see the person from 2006...they left for Montana the next year.

Hello Azimo, welcome to Psych Central.

You need to see a psychiatrist who is a medical doctor that has specialized in mental health diagnosis, care and medication.

Here is an article by DocJohn on the types of mental health professionals. Types of Mental Health Professionals | Psych Central

Here are some onlines tests you can do to get a better picture of what is going on for you. Psychological Tests and Quizzes

Hi Azimo,

Yes, there is a special questionnaire which is quite lengthy and is usually administered by a psychiatrist. Sorry for my lapse in memory pertaining to the name of the actual questionnaire. Guess you'd need to find a psychiatrist first and explain to him/her the confusion you're experiencing regarding your symptoms and the reactions you've received from your previous MH professionals.

Wish you all the best.
