I've watched a few shows like Reign, Criminal Minds, and Hannibal and I've seen a couple of episodes in which a character's mind was influenced by a brain tumor (or at least the symptoms would point to that such as headaches coming and going and claiming that their minds were sharper then ever and suffering hallucinations) in all three shows each character was influenced by a tumor in one way or another.
This has led me to wonder if a person suffering from a tumor and is influenced to commit murder because of that tumor could really be held accountable for those crimes. I realize there is no excuse but I feel that if a person is influenced by a tumor something beyond there control and is not even completely aware of it assuming they are even in a state of mind to tell reality from madness. I can't help but wonder if someone like that should really have to spend life in prison for something not entirely their fault. |

I have watched a few of those shows myself. I think if something like that was to happen the person would be checked out by doctors to see if they could stand trial and it would be found at that time, maybe? I guess you never really know. Back in the day before we did things the way we do them now, I am sure it probably happened. Which is kinda sad if you ask me all the way around.

That seems possible, but who am i to say!! I have mental problems and recently had 2 lumps removed from my head close to the scalp. The doc told me they were benign, but there is another one growing now too. I do believe there could be head trauma causing problems with criminals and brain tumors too.

No, if it is known there is a medical issue causing the behavior the person is not held accountable for the crime. Can be tricky with a brain tumor though and learning about it before death (doing an autopsy and finding the tumor would not help a person much :-)
There have been cases where people have murdered their spouse while asleep Homicidal sleepwalking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Interesting discussion of what happens/can cause a tumor/murder combination: http://brainmind.com/Case5.html The Atlantic magazine article, "The Brain on Trial": http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/...-trial/308520/
