Hello,
So I received my genetic results from 23andme and ran them through Prometheus. According to the results, I have several genetic markers for an increased risk in schizophrenia. Ive suffered from anxiety for most of my life. This past year, both anxiety and OCD have been making it difficult to function 100% normally (whatever that means). After getting these results, Im absolutely petrified I could be experiencing the onset of schizophrenia (though to be honest I have really been experiencing only anxiety symptoms). Any thoughts? To include what I can do to prevent the onset, if possible?
Thank you
Hugs from:

Hi, Jreinhal, and welcome to Psych Central! Just because someone has a genetic predisposition for a disorder does not mean that the person will actually develop it. It likely results as a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental factors, from what I understand.

How old are you? Schizophrenia tends to show up in younger people. If you are well into your twenties or older, then I think you are likely okay.

Hello Jreinhal, schizophrenia is a severe distress or an extreme reaction to trauma. As Travelinglady pointed out, it tends to appear in early adulthood. Keep stress to a minimum, family dynamics can play a big part in recovery. It does not sound to me like you are on your way to psychosis though. By the way, OCD is often a way to make anxiety feel safer. You might like to try the online quizzes here >>>> Psychological Tests and Quizzes and The Sanity Score - Test Your Mental Wellness

The sz markers are abundant....I had psychosis but had over twenty positive markers....still not considered sz yet. Just an FYI but people with OCD often feel like they are getting sz we see it a lot on the s and p forum.....

I believe it has the most evidence for a genetic basis. Like others have said it usually presents in the teens or early adulthood. I don't think I would worry at 37. Just watch your symptoms.

I get some psychosis when in a really deep depression but that doesn't mean I am sz.
