I'm nearly 40 and after many years of verbal and emotional abuse- 3 weeks ago he FINALLY got physical. I don't know what to say or why I'm here.

Evidently your father has never truly understood or lived to his potential. I realize you are angry but maybe the best thing you can do for you both is to pray (doesn't have to be Christian) for healing. It works wonders.

It is a good thing you are talking about it.

I say it is time for you to contact a domestic violence center and find out what resources are available in your area to help you to GET OUT of this abusive environment.

If you are wondering if after 40 years of living in it that it's too late to do anything about it, I can assure you it is not too late ... i didn't escape mine until I was 33.5 years of age, and even thought it's been a tough journey of healing and recovery, it's been worthwhile.

Wishing you the courage to NOT accept abuse from anyone (including family) and taking whatever legal action is necessary to bring about the peace, quite, safety and comfort you so deserve to enjoy as a human being.

Sincerely,
Pfrog!

Thanks for this!

Very abusive mother until my 30's as well. I have PTSD as a result.Therapy and meds have saved my life. If she does it again, I have absolutely no qualms about having her arrested.
