This is very much about my own typing and errors within... so please do not take offence at the title... in truth, the latter would irritate me if true as I find it to be an unconscious act that I only pick up on if I proof read what I've written:
I type/write words down that sound similar but have different meanings - prime examples would be their/there or where/were... but it's not just limited to commonly used words.... night/knight, weather/whether, threw/through etc. It is very frustrating as I am very aware of the individual meanings... but it's like my brain just decides to burp as I touch type and throw out what ever word it likes ![]() Is there a common explanation for this other than just crap happens? ![]() TJ Additional note: And yes, I proof read this before submitting ![]()

I know dyslexia is rearranging letters making it hard to comprehend but I don't know if it is exchanging words. you would have to investigate that. I would suppose that you are writing out your thoughts and those homonyms pop up you just write the first one that pops into your head and move on with your sentence. I think calling it careless is being a little harsh.

At least you know the difference, many people appear unaware: http://www.theguardian.com/theguardi...nd-clarificati ons
Carelessness? No. Indicative of how your brain works? Perhaps - I very rarely use a homophone, but my spelling is deeply unsatisfactory - careless? Perhaps, lack of attention, quite possibly, see/hear words differently - I fear so. |

Thanks for the replies. Did a little digging and found an article on copyediting.com that pretty much summed it all up (put in bold what really stood out):
