I'm 17 and I'm staying miles away from my parents to study. The way I am from my place to where I study is different. I understand that since we all have this different way of showing off personalities with different people we deal with but this time, someone in authority from our school dorm predicted I have a Multiple Personality Disorder. It was a joke in some ways but I took it seriously since I am aware I have a Anxiety Disorders. I never came up to the idea I have a multiple personality disorder until she told. Most people consider me weird because they always see me alone(which I prefer) and I am very sociable and talkative. I am also aware that sometimes I am very blunt and impulsive but I am also sensitive and kind. I am very shy and very confident both at the same time. Also there are times I would be very happy and funny and all that then all of the sudden I'd be the most quiet and reserved person. Because my mind takes me to a different dimensions and have delusions that makes me have those moods I went to a shrink and considered I am bipolar but Im not very satisfied with that findings. |

I think you need to get a second opinion Lily. Many of these disorders can be confused with others until a little time has passed and the symptoms point to a clearer diagnosis.

Hello Lily13,
I really find it awful when someone decides to give someone else a diagnosis when they know nothing about it. For starters, multiple personality disorder isn't even called that anymore, it's called dissociative identity disorder. That disorder would take a lot for you to be properly diagnosed with that and very serious so please discount that person's remark unless they have tested you, given you therapy or are a trained mental health professional! It does sound like there is something going on with you. You are away from home in a strange environment studying which is stressful. There should be a counseling service attached to your place of study. If you are having delusions and mood swings and you feel things are not quite right then that is an indication to seek help and support. ![]()

I'm not certain but because one is sociable on one hand and quiet and reserved on the other, doesn't seem problematic on the surface.
How elevated are you displaying? Is one thing to consider. Delusions? Could you elaborate? Being multi faceted isn't DID. ![]() I agree about a second opinion. It would take a pdoc much longer than a couple sessions to toss out a dx. |

Lily,
I have cylothymia which is not as bad as Bipolar but still in the same category. I have moments when I am shy and moments when I am loud and dont care what others think. I have moments when i get things done and at the same time cant even focus on what i need to do. I have days when i got out with friends and feel happy and spend lots of money with out thinking of consequences.... but also have down periods when i hide and dont talk to anyone for a week at a time. Days where i dress like a business woman but other days where i wear the kind of clothes that i regret days later....If you feel like you have 2 or more different personalities... maybe it might just me a mood disorder. I go to a psychiatrist and maybe it is a good idea for you... they can diagnose you properly. Good luck. |
